AFC Commercial Bank seeks to recruit an ESG & Sustainability Officer to join its Risk Department. The primary mandate of the role is to develop, implement and monitor the Bank’s Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) framework in alignment with regulatory requirements, sustainable finance principles and AFC Commercial Bank’s strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish the Bank’s ESG priorities, policies and governance structures aligned with the RBZ Climate Risk Guideline and IFRS standards.
  • Integrate ESG risk screening into credit appraisal processes and conduct due diligence for lending.
  • Conduct environmental and social risk assessments and provide ESG risk opinions to the Credit Committee and lending authorities.
  • Support the development of sustainable finance products and green financing initiatives.
  • Identify climate-related risks affecting the Bank’s portfolio and monitor financed emissions.
  • Design and deliver ESG training modules for credit officers, branch managers, senior management and the Board.
  • Prepare ESG and sustainability KPIs, dashboards and disclosures aligned with international standards.
  • Engage regulators, DFIs, donors and community stakeholders to strengthen ESG partnerships and programmes.

Requirements

  • Strong ability to carry out Environmental & Social Risk Analysis.
  • Deep understanding of Zimbabwe environmental laws.
  • Exceptional report writing skills.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science/Law, Sustainability, Banking & Finance, Risk Management, Economics or a related field.
  • Sustainability & Climate Risk Certification, such as the CFA ESG Certificate.
  • Master’s Degree is an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Banking Risk Management, Sustainability, Environmental Compliance and Development Finance.
  • Project Finance experience is an added advantage.
