Applicants are invited from suitably qualified, experienced, self-motivated and task oriented persons to fill in the following position that have arisen within Mwenezi Rural District Council.

 

 

Job Title : Environment Technician
Salary Grade : 9
Reports To : Executive Officer Agriculture and Environment
Tenure : Full Time

 

 

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

 

 

1. The ideal candidate should be between 25years – 54years.
1. A Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture and Environment or Geography and Environment studies.
1. A Diploma in Environmental studies will be an added advantage
1. At least 3 years’ experience in a rural local authority
1. Proven ability to interact at higher levels in local government
1. Demonstrated strategic leadership, initiative and interpersonal competence

 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

 

1. To identify and establish woodlots, consolidated gardens, irrigation schemes and grazing schemes in the district- (projects identification and implementation with local community participation).
1. To take responsibility for the reclamation of degraded natural resources (eg gully reclamation, eradication of invasive alien species,).
1. To provide and prescribe means of controlling, prevention and extinguishing of veld fires.
1. To control livestock grazing in state land.
1. To formulate by-laws governing the environmental activities in the district.
1. To ensure environmental impact assessments are done for new projects.
1. To implement land use plans and control illegal settlements.
1. To assist in the adjudication of land disputes.
1. To promote and encourage eco-tourism projects.
1. To assist in the development, implementation and coordination of CAMPFIRE projects in the district.
1. Supervise the operations of the Environmental Sub-Committees (ESCs).
1. To cultivate and farm land owned by the Council.
1. To levy businesses operating within their jurisdiction including sand abstraction.
1. To assist in the preparation of Committee budget.
1. To collaborate with other Council Departments, EMA, Forestry, farmers associations and all other government departments and parastatals involved in environmental conservation.
1. Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly and annual reports to the Executive Officer Agriculture and Environment.
1. Execute from time to time any other duties as will be prescribed by the Executive Officer Agriculture and Environment.
