NEC Agriculture (The National Employment Council for Agriculture) is seeking to fill the position of a qualified, innovative and experienced professional responsible for EHS policies, compliance, and safety within the agriculture sector.
Key Responsibilities
- 1. Developing, implementing, and monitoring Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) policies, procedures, and compliance frameworks aligned to applicable legislation and industry best practice.
- 2. Conducting workplace inspections, risk assessments, hazard identification exercises, and compliance audits across subsectors within the agriculture industry.
- 3. Monitoring employer compliance with occupational safety and health standards as provided under relevant statutes and CBAs.
- 4. Investigating workplace accidents, incidents, dangerous occurrences, and environmental breaches, and preparing detailed reports with corrective and preventive recommendations.
- 5. Advising Management and NEC Council on emerging environmental, occupational health, and safety risks within the agriculture sector.
- 6. Developing and reviewing safety management systems and reporting tools to strengthen monitoring and evaluation of EHS performance.
- 7. Designing and facilitating training programmes, awareness campaigns, and workshops on workplace safety, environmental protection, and statutory compliance.
- 8. Promoting a culture of safety, environmental responsibility, and continuous improvement among employers and employees.
- 9. Liaising with regulatory authorities, including environmental and occupational safety agencies, and other key stakeholders to ensure coordinated compliance and enforcement.
- 10. Supporting dispute resolution processes where occupational health, safety, or environmental matters are in contention.
- 11. Contributing to NEC Agriculture publications, compliance guidelines, strategic planning processes, and sectoral safety initiatives.
Requirements
- 1. Degree in Environmental Health, Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, or related field.
- 2. Postgraduate Diploma in Occupational Safety/Environmental Management (Master’s an added advantage).
- 3. Professional certification (e.g., NEBOSH) preferred.
- 4. Minimum 3 years’ relevant experience in EHS management.
- 5. Clean Class 4 Driver’s Licence.
- Strong knowledge of EHS systems, risk assessment, incident investigation, report writing, stakeholder engagement, and training skills.
