Key Responsibilities
- The PhD research will examine the governance structures, institutional arrangements and policy instruments that can enable and accelerate a just energy transition.
- The research is expected to contribute to a better understanding of how policies, institutions and stakeholders can work together to support sustainable energy solutions, decarbonisation and equitable access to clean energy, particularly within the South African context and with relevance to broader African energy-transition challenges.
Requirements
- A master’s degree or equivalent NQF Level 9 qualification in economics, public policy, development studies, science and technology studies, energy studies, environmental science, sustainability studies, or a related field.
- The highest qualification should not be more than 6 years old.
- A minimum average of 65% or equivalent in the master’s degree.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- A clear interest in pursuing academic research related to the Just Energy Transition, African innovation systems, and/or sustainable development.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a transdisciplinary research team.
