Main Duties and Responsibilities
The Education Officer will be responsible for directly implementing on-going Terre des hommes Italia’s Education in Emergencies Project in Chipinge and Chimanimani districts in Manicaland Province. The project aims to support access to education for vulnerable children affected by prolonged loss of learning as a result of compounding effects of natural hazards including COVID-19 and chronic vulnerabilities among marginalised communities in targeted schools.

Duties And Responsibilities

 

The successful candidate is expected to;
• Engage and coordinate with district level Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (MoPSE) and Teachers in designing and rolling out appropriate catch-up learning modalities relevant to targeted schools.
• Collaborate with MoPSE Chipinge and Chimanimani in ensuring that children in examination classes access appropriate blended learning support inclusive of socio-emotional learning to be better prepared for national examinations.
• Support MoPSE in monitoring and tracking retention and progression rates of pupils in all the targeted schools.
• Collaborate with relevant line Ministries such as, Department of Social Development and other protection actors in addressing child protection concerns raised in schools and communities.
• Analyse trends of disaster effects in schools and develop appropriate packages for emergency pre-positioning within the education sector.
• Support targeted Better Schools Programme clusters in learner assessment.
• Conduct joint assessment with MoPSE to identify children with special needs and support access to recommended assistive devices.
• Organise procurement and distribution of teaching & learning material in targeted schools
• Participate in district level meetings and back to school awareness campaigns
• Support Guidance and Counselling teachers in targeted schools in establishing relevant targeted assistance to vulnerable adolescent girls.
• Support the district and schools in COVID-19 preventive measures
• Facilitate and support capacity building and in-service continuous training and development of Teachers on alternative teaching and learning models
• Liaise and collaborate with staff in other thematic areas on PSS and DRR issues
• Support the Project Manager in proposal development

Qualifications And Experience

 

Desired Qualifications and Experience
1. Master in Education/ Social Work with at least three years of implementing education programmes in both emergency and development contexts. OR a BA with more than five years relevant experience
2. Familiarity with MoPSE policies and engagement processes at district up to national level.
3. Knowledge of Child Protection Programming desirable
4. Understanding of the humanitarian architecture in the country including education in emergencies coordination.
5. Understanding of the cultural sensitivities and familiarity with the customs and norms in the districts of operation.
