Summary
The Consumer Protection Commission was established under the Consumer Protection Act Chapter 14:44 (No. 5 of 2019) which became Law on 10 December 2019. This Act repealed the Consumer Contract Act Chapter 8:03 and is administered by the Minister for Industry and Commerce. The Consumer Protection commission’s core function is to “protect consumers horn unconscionable, unreasonable, unjust or otherwise improper trade practices, as well as deceptive, misleading, unfair or fraudulent conduct.”
The Consumer Protection Commission (CPC) is now inviting suitably qualified and experienced individuals to apply for the above-mentioned position that has risen in the Commission.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Develops and executes awareness campaigns in consumer rights in both print and electronic media
- Provides advice and guidance to teams and stakeholders regarding consumer rights awareness campaigns and activities
- Researches and writes select content for consumer rights awareness campaigns, speaking points, newsletter articles, videos, website text, social media content, and marketing materials
- Assesses the quality of existing awareness and promotion vehicles, tools, standards and templates
- Makes recommendations to the Manager and contributes to team strategies and plans
- Participates in the staging of events
- Builds and maintains relationships with internal and stakeholders, so as to identify initiatives and programs
- Responds to consumer queries electronically and maintains an archive of the of the queries
- Undertakes training of staff involved in awareness campaigns.
Qualifications And Experience
- An undergraduate degree in Business, Economics, Media Studies or equivalent
- At least 5 years’ experience in public education programmes
- Excellent organisational skills
- Experience with the media
- A clean class 4 driver’s licence.
