About SRC
The Sexual Rights Centre (SRC) is a non-governmental organization established in 2007 and headquartered in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. SRC exists to advance and promote the access, voice, agency, and empowerment of marginalised, vulnerable, and key population communities in Zimbabwe to realise quality, comprehensive and affirming sexual and reproductive health and rights. Thus, the core goal of the organisation’s work is on realizing the rights of young and adult lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and questioning persons (LGBTIQ+), sex workers (SW) in their diversity, people who use drugs, people with disabilities, adolescents, and young persons, including young people in tertiary institutions – to meaningfully contribute towards movement-building of the nascent movements, networks, and organisations of these populations. We contribute to larger shifts in discourse, policy, and practice: towards a Zimbabwe in which the sexual reproductive health and rights of all people are respected, upheld, and protected.
We are currently responding to five strategic goals (as underpinned in our Strategic Plan 2021-2025) namely: Strong and resilient individuals, movements, and communities of marginalised, vulnerable, and key population groups; Reduced stigma and discrimination; Improved and inclusive service delivery; Policy and practice change, harmonization, and full implementation; Organizational capacity strengthening, sustainability and management of change.
The rationale for documenting the SRC mentorship model
Sexual Rights Centre’s ways of working are engrained in nurturing the capacity of nascent LGBTI and sex worker movements, as guided by its Strategic Objective 1. To date, SRC has mentored a total of eight collectives, of which two have gained autonomy and six are still housed at SRC. The mentorship has evolved over years without being documented to reflect on the weakness and strengths of the model amidst nuances that it is a best practice. The documentation process is expected to facilitate reflections, review and evaluation of the model. SRC regards documenting the mentorship model as a key element in enforcing good model governance and as an indispensable tool for independent model validation. It is on this pretext that SRC seeks to engage the expertise of a qualified Consultant specialized in documenting best practice models.
Description of the assignment
The main purpose of this assignment is to document the SRC mentorship model, explaining the rationale, assumptions, derivations, tests and other analyses that support the model. It may be important to note that documenting this model will bridge the gap between actual programmed model and the original abstract model and the model developer’s thought process and justification.
Key deliverable
The scope of work for the Consultant will involve the following activities but not limited to: Documented SRC Mentorship Model Document that is shareable online and as a printed copy.
Duration of the assignment
This assignment is expected to be conducted within a maximum of 10 working days.
Reporting
The consultant will directly report to the Executive Director.
Competences and experience of the consultant
The SRC seeks a competent and experienced consultant who has: Post-graduate qualification in development studies or related fields; In-depth knowledge and experience in documenting models and /or related work; Vast experience in research and documentation; Consulting experience within a non-profit making organisation; Experience working in the African context; Uphold ethics in working with LGBTIQ+ organizations or individuals.
