Context
In Zimbabwe, IOM has set up its Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) to provide a better understanding of migration patterns and needs within the country. DTM in Zimbabwe is in two-folds and aims to provide information related to migration flows and internal displacement.
Under the overall supervision of the IOM Chief of Mission, in close collaboration with the Head of Programmes and under the direct supervision of the Project Coordinator, the successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the ERU in the implementation of DTM programme / project related activities, as well strengthening migration data and communication on migrant’s needs and vulnerabilities, migration flows and trends within the mission.
Duties And Responsibilities
Contribute to the design and implement the integrated mechanism for data gathering and information management across all activities to ensure accurate and reliable data is collected, stored, and submitted in a timely manner to be further processed; Provide support to data collection operations in the context of different DTM exercises (e.g flow monitoring, baseline assessments, multi-sectoral assessments) being conducted in different provinces of the country; Support the identification, recruitment, training and task coordination of enumerators and key informants, and regularly monitor quality of collected data; Ensure the effective use of the designated information system, including DTM portal and application tools, and other databases to manage the implementation of information management mechanism; Support the development and facilitate DTM training modules for different stakeholders as required for the implementation of information management mechanism to ensure smooth roll out; Liaise with different Units / programmes / projects within the mission, as well as partners, on relevant information management and reporting issues, tools, and initiatives; Ensure that the implementation of the information management systems and application adhere to IOM’s Information Technology and Communication (ITC) Policies and Standards; Assist project coordinators in the development of donor reports and project proposals with respect to the information management (DTM) component; Attend UN Information Management Group, project meetings and participate in information management joint activities, as required; Provide regular and updated information on human mobility trends, changes and any other significant observations surrounding human mobility in Zimbabwe; Perform such other such duties as may be required.
Qualifications and experience
University degree in Information Management, Statistics, Computer Science, Media or Social Sciences or a related field with three years of relevant professional experience or High school degree with at least five years of professional experience in related fields.
Experience
Experience in information management, emergency humanitarian operations, and / or management and coordination of information flows; In-depth knowledge of the latest technological developments in information technology and information system; Proven skills to analyse statistical information; Ability to formulate IM-related technical requirements and Operating Procedures; Ability to translate planning-specifications into technical briefs for data capture and analysis, and vice versa; Demonstrated knowledge of different data collection methodologies; Ability to compile and holistically analyse diverse datasets; Experience with handling confidential data; Excellent spoken and written English is essential and in-depth knowledge of local culture and languages, essential; Knowledge and understanding of IOM / UN guidelines is an advantage.
Technical skills
Ability to verify, clean and process data; Demonstrated computer knowledge use including Microsoft Office, Access, Google Earth, and ability to use internet and email; Knowledge of Open Data Kit (ODK) applications and use of PDAs; Good knowledge of the context / geography of Zimbabwe; Familiarity with mobile data collection technologies and GPS an advantage.
Languages
Proficiency in written and spoken English.
