This dynamic and high-profile job reports to the Deputy Vice Chancellor and is responsible for providing crucial, visionary leadership at the Professor Rukudzo Joseph Murapa Institute of Peace, Leadership, and Governance (IPLG). The Director is responsible for overall leadership in the production of competent leaders and governance systems for economic, social and political development primarily in contemporary Africa and beyond. The role offers a unique opportunity to lead multidisciplinary teams in the training and production of innovative research, impactful community outreach on value-driven, ethical leadership and good governance on a Pan-African scale.

 

 

Qualifications and Experience

 

 

  • Minimum qualification: terminal doctoral degree in:

    • Peace Studies

    • Leadership

    • Governance

    • International Relations

    • Law

  • Professorship is an added advantage

  • At least 5 years’ experience in:

    • International peacebuilding

    • Mediation, reconciliation, and governance, particularly within the African context

  • Strong and demonstrable track record in income generation/resource mobilization

  • Experience managing research or consultancy projects involving multiple stakeholders

  • Proven track record in leading and facilitating impactful training in:

    • Competent leadership and governance in Africa

    • Mediation and reconciliation

    • Stakeholder participation in peace processes

  • Demonstrable leadership experience and ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders

  • Strong strategic thinking skills with a history of building effective partnerships

  • Proven ability to manage diversity and succeed in international, multicultural environments

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

 

  • Provide overall leadership and strategic direction for the Professor Rukudzo Joseph Murapa Institute of Peace, Leadership, and Governance (IPLG), ensuring alignment with the University’s mission and strategic goals.

  • Develop and oversee:

    • Innovative projects

    • Training programs

    • Peace and governance outreach activities

    • Strategic partnerships at national, regional, and international levels

  • Facilitate capacity-building initiatives for staff and students in peace, leadership, and governance.

  • Represent Africa University at high-level forums, promoting diplomacy, neutrality, and independence.

  • Plan and lead fund-raising/resource mobilization efforts.

  • Oversee financial and operational management:

    • Budget preparation

    • Financial reporting

    • Development of new funding streams

  • Foster an inclusive and collaborative environment to attract and retain diverse talent.

  • Support special projects and initiatives in alignment with the Vice Chancellor’s priorities.
