Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced individuals to fill the positions of COURT INTERPRETERS which have arisen within the Judicial Service Commission. The Commission is a dynamic organisation that comprises of competent and professional staff. The vacancies are to be filled around Zimbabwe.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Court Interpreter will assist the Magistrate to:
- Interpret in court proceedings;
- Act as an intermediary in court proceedings involving minor children or other vulnerable witnesses or litigants;
- Visit prison and police cells with the Magistrates in order to interpret;
- Translate court documents and extra curial statements;
- Compile court statistics;
- Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
COMPETENCE AND SKILLS FOR THE POST
The person must possess:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Language and Communication, or Media and Societal studies, or any other relevant field approved by the Judicial Service Commission;
- Have an excellent command of English and be fluent in at least two or more indigenous languages;
- Working knowledge of Sign Language will be an added advantage;
- Be a person of high integrity.
