CeSHHAR Zimbabwe is an organisation that specialises in sexual health and HIV/AIDS research and programming in Zimbabwe with an extensive national, regional and international academic and community partnership network CeSHHAR is looking for candidates to fill the following positions starting January 2022.
Job summary
CeSHHAR has been awarded a three-year research grant by the Templeton World Charity Foundation to implement a project titled “The Zvandiri (As I am) character strength and its constructs among adolescents living with HIV in Zimbabwe”. This project will examine and measure how the Zvandiri programme can sustainably engage adolescents living with HIV to develop the character strengths embedded within the indigenous concept of ‘Zvandiri’ (accept me as I am), so that they can flourish and live well within their communities. The research also aims to explore the utility of adding a home-based caregiver/household intervention delivered by community adolescent treatment supporters to the Zvandiri programme. This collaborative project involves: CeSHHAR, Africaid, University of Sydney, London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM). Suitably qualified candidates who meet PhD criteria will be able to do a three-year funded PhD with LSTM.
Responsibilities of the job
Working as part of a team, the Coordinator / Social scientist will be responsible for coordinating the day-to-day running of the study; Line managing junior researchers; Conducting data collection; Recording of data, and supporting analysis and publication of results.
Qualifications
Masters in Social Science Anthropology, Sociology, Psychology or related fields; A PhD is an added advantage; Experience conducting qualitative, quantitative and participatory health-related research; Demonstrable interest in social theory and development of social science concepts an added advantage; Evidence of contributing to peer-reviewed journal articles. Evidence of lead authorship an added advantage; Ability to work well independently as well as collaboratively as part of a research team; Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; Ability to understand / speak Shona an added advantage; Project management experience, including managing a field team; Capacity to conduct trainings and capacity development with others in the team; Experience with NVivo, SPSS / STATA or equivalent.
