CeSHHAR Zimbabwe is an organisation that specialises in sexual health and HIV/AIDS research and programming in Zimbabwe with an extensive national, regional and international academic and community partnership network CeSHHAR is looking for candidates to fill the following positions starting January 2022.

Job summary

CeSHHAR has been awarded a five-year NIHR-Wellcome Global Health Partnership grant to conduct Research to promote positive masculinity and sexual health among younger adolescents in Zimbabwe. The project will conduct formative research, co-develop and evaluate a peer-delivered gender-transformative intervention for younger adolescents (aged 10-14 years) to promote positive masculinity and sexual health in Zimbabwe. The project also aims to develop and pilot context-specific and valid tools (quantitative and participatory) to measure gender-related social and behavioural norms and attitudes. This collaborative project involves: CeSHHAR, London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM). Suitably qualified candidates who meet PhD criteria will be able to do a three-year funded PhD with LSTM.

Responsibilities of the job

Working as part of a team, the Coordinator / Social scientist will be responsible for coordinating the day-to-day running of the study; Line managing junior researchers; Conducting data collection, recording of data, and supporting analysis and publication of results.

Qualifications

Masters in Social Science Anthropology, Sociology, Psychology or related fields; Experience conducting qualitative, quantitative and participatory health-related research; Demonstrable interest in social norms / gender-related social norms measurement an added advantage; Evidence of contributing to peer-reviewed journal articles; Evidence of lead authorship an added advantage; Ability to work well independently as well as collaboratively as part of a research team; Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; Ability to understand / speak Shona an added advantage; Project management experience, including managing a field team; Capacity to conduct trainings and capacity development with others in the team; Experience with NVivo, SPSS / STATA or equivalent.
