Key Responsibilities
- Assess and prioritize health information and indicator needs.
- Assess the availability, completeness, timeliness, consistency, validity and comparability of health data.
- Contribute to data-quality assessments of health indicators and underlying data sources.
- Support the development and application of methodologies for assessing the completeness and quality of vital statistics.
- Analyze Core Health Indicators and related statistics to identify trends, inequalities, geographic patterns and data-quality issues.
- Contribute to technical guidance, frameworks, SOPs, glossaries, methodological manuals, data dictionaries, validation rules and templates.
- Assist in developing monitoring frameworks for health data and indicator performance.
- Prepare analytical reports, country and regional profiles, technical briefs, methodological reports and presentations.
- Develop charts, dashboards, infographics, comparative analyses and interactive visualizations.
- Support technical consultations, expert working groups, meetings, workshops, webinars and capacity-building activities.
- Prepare technical presentations, exercises, training materials and case studies.
- Support the documentation and exchange of good practices and lessons learned.
Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university in: Public Health, Epidemiology, Statistics or Biostatistics, Demography or Population Studies, Health Information Systems, Economics, Data Science, Another relevant discipline related to health statistics and population health monitoring
- Preferred: A Master’s degree or PhD in public health, epidemiology, biostatistics, statistics, demography, population health, health information systems, health metrics, data science, health economics or a related discipline.
- Candidates must have at least seven years of professional experience in health statistics, health indicators, epidemiology, population health monitoring, civil registration and vital statistics, health information systems, data analysis or a closely related field.
- Applicants should have demonstrated experience in areas including: Production, analysis, interpretation, validation or dissemination of health indicators and CRVS performance indicators, Health data-quality assessment, Working with CRVS, censuses, household surveys, health information systems, surveillance systems and administrative data, Interpreting health statistics and translating findings into technical conclusions and recommendations, Civil registration and vital statistics systems, Indicator frameworks, metadata, methodological guidance and data-quality frameworks, International or subnational comparative analysis, Technical cooperation, training or capacity building.
- Candidates require very good written and spoken knowledge of English and/or Spanish, with working knowledge of the other language.
- Working knowledge of French and/or Portuguese is considered an asset.
- Applicants should have strong knowledge of health indicators, health statistics, population health monitoring, CRVS and health information systems.
- Proficiency in relevant statistical and data-management tools such as R, Python, Stata, SPSS, SAS, SQL, Excel or equivalent platforms is required.
