Job title: Connecting People Coordinator – CPC
Responsible to: MCC Representatives
Location: Bulawayo, Zimbabwe
Term: 1 Year Fixed Contract (Possibility of Contract’s Extension to Multiple Years Extension)
Start date: As soon as possible
Synopsis:
One of MCC’s core values is “connecting people”. Through the exchange programs of SALT, IVEP, YAMEN, and Seed, MCC facilitates interchange and mutual learning between its supporting constituency and those with whom we work around the world, so that all may give and receive.
The CPC will help to make smooth connections between Zimbabwe, North America, and other parts of the Global South for the Young Adults exchange program (SALT, YAMEN, IVEP & Seed) participants. For Seed, the CPC will oversee the organization, implementation, and supervision of an intercultural cohort of young adults in the complex and enriching context of Zimbabwe.
Duties and responsibilities
The CPC role, in close consultation with the Zimbabwe Reps shall include:
- Defining appropriate partners and placements for GSL participants.
- Developing the job descriptions for outgoing YAMEN and IVEP placements from Zimbabwe, which includes shortlisting, interviews, and English testing, e.t.c
- Assist in the selection of participants and the processing of necessary visa documents.
- Organize orientation in collaboration with HR department, monitor the adjustment and training processes for each participant.
- Provide adequate supports to GSL participants who are working in Zimbabwe by regular site visits and other available means of communication such as whatsapp messages, and email and phone contacts.
- Offer reflection times and capacity building gatherings
- Evaluate and make adjustments in the placements as necessary as applicable.
- Plan, monitor, and evaluate the progress of the exchange programs in coordination with the MCC Representatives for Zimbabwe.
- Complete worker evaluations and assist country representatives in analyzing partnerships.
- Engage and finding short -term placement for returning GSL participants.
- Participate in MCC meetings, events and functions, including devotional and prayer times.
- Develop and maintain a database of IVEP, YAMEN, Seed, and SALT alumni and serve as a resource (and not to lead or direct the activities) of the alumni.
- Collaborate with relevant MCC Zimbabwe Program coordinators to facilitate and provide logistical and administrative support for MCC constituencies’ visit to Zimbabwe program.
- Other duties as assigned by MCC Reps for Zimbabwe.
MCC Zimbabwe Team Support:
- Work interpedently with other sectors/staff for mutual collaboration and collective support.
Qualification, Skills and Experience Requirements
Invitations to serve with MCC are contingent on the successful outcome of criminal background check(s).
- Education: College/university degree in relevant field such as Peace studies, Christians Theology, Development studies, and Political Science, social work, psychology.
- Relational Skills: Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to form, foster and maintain positive, working relationships and collaboratively work with others to achieve organizational goals, taking action that respect the needs and contributions of others. Demonstrate a positive and outgoing personality, even under pressure. Ability to work in collaboration with MCC regional and country teams, local churches, and partners.
- Leadership Skills: Ability to inspire and work collaboratively with others to achieve organizational goals, taking action that respect the needs and contributions of others. Ability to work independently and as a team. Supervisory experience is preferred.
- Conflict Resolution: Capacity for teambuilding and conflict resolution with ability to listen, interact and collaborate with a group of young adults with divergent, and strongly held viewpoints. Experience in conflict transformation is preferred. Preference for candidates with a background in Christian and nonviolent peacemaking and working with church and grassroots partners.
- Cross cultural/multi-cultural awareness: Strong cross-cultural competency, including the ability to guide others in navigating through cross cultural adaptation, helping GSL participants to engage in expanding their worldview. International experience or working across cultures is an asset. Ability to facilitate group processes not only for group cohesion but also for reflection and learning.
- Worker Care: Able to demonstrate empathy and understanding. Knowledge of self-care and trauma-informed strategies with the ability to model and promote proactive self-care among GSL participants. Able to maintain high level of confidentiality with worker care issues.
- Language: English proficiency, both written and verbal. Proficiency in a local language is required.
- Computer Literacy: Ability to use email programs, navigate the internet, locate online resources, use Microsoft Excel, Word, and MS Teams.
- Flexibility: Ability to be flexible to work effectively in ambiguous or changing situations and with diverse individuals and groups. Willingness to respond to GSL participant emergencies as they happen, with support from the MCC Reps, GSL Program Coordinators, and HR.
- Planning & Organizing: Strong logistical skills to develop, implement, evaluate, and adjust plans to reach goals and meet deadlines, ensuring the efficient use of resources.
- Communication: Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to listen, model open communication, and foster good will among others, both in-person and electronically.
- Risk Taking: Ability to identify, assess, and manage risk while striving to attain objectives. Able to work independently, while seeking guidance from MCC Rep(s) and GSL Program Coordinators.
- Travel: Willingness to travel long distances and work long days (with time off in lieu). Be willing to travel frequently by bus and accept the sometimes-rustic realities of the Zimbabwe context. Having a valid driver’s permit and being comfortable to drive both automatic and manual transmission vehicles is an asset.
