Communications Specialist: Local NGO

The Communications Specialist will plan, design and execute the program’s communications strategy with management; draft and finalize program technical and promotional materials, document progress at all project sites; coordinate collection and use of photos and videos for program’s promotional purposes, ensure compliance with USAID’s branding requirements, build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders as well as the media.

The position is based in Harare with a lot of travelling to the field.

Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Planning, designing, and executing a communications strategy for the program in close liaison with management; Drafting and finalizing program technical and promotional materials, including monthly bulletins, snapshots/success stories, fact sheets, technical bulletins, quarterly and annual reports and other documents; Preparation of weekly highlights on project’s activities for funding partner and program stakeholders; Designing and printing brochures, signage, banners, and technical displays, as required for program events; Participating in regular site visits for communications documentation; Collecting and shooting video and photographic footage; Coordinating the collection and use of photos for promotional purposes; Assisting in designing, developing and executing appropriate media relations strategies; including arranging press conferences or media opportunities, as appropriate and in line with funding requirements; Designing, producing and distributing information packages – for communities, partners and stakeholders in support of the program’s work.

Qualifications and requirements
A bachelors degree in journalism or communications; minimum 3 years experience as a communications professional; experience in helping support and foster communications within a large, complex, global organization; demonstrate excellent writing and publication production experience; demonstrated attention to detail and experience with copy editing and proof reading; ability to coordinate multiple projects under strict deadlines. Demonstrated strong written and oral communications skills — clear, concise, creative and persuasive. Business fluency (written and oral) in English – Fluency (written and oral) in Shona and Ndebele an asset. Demonstrated strong proficiency in Power Point, Word and Excel.
