Job Summary
Childline Zimbabwe is a Private Voluntary Organisation which is registered under the laws of Zimbabwe, specialising in child protection, championing, guarding and protecting their rights through the provision of safe, confidential and child friendly reporting mechanisms centered around a free 24 hour counselling services.
Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the position of a Communications and Advocacy Officer in Childline Zimbabwe reporting to the Programmes Development and Support Manager.
Job Purpose:
The position is responsible for designing, setting and facilitating the implementation and review of Childline Zimbabwe’s advocacy, communications & documentation strategies. Responsible for the preparation and management of the dissemination of information both internally within Childline and externally targeting audiences such as donors, government departments, the media, partner organisations, general public and communities.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Develop, implement and review a National Advocacy, Communications & Documentation strategy for Childline Zimbabwe.
•Identification & documentation of strategies, models and best practises relevant to the development of the organisation through several means such as videos, case stories, photography etc.
•Lead the development of Childline Zimbabwe’s publications including the Annual Reports and Organisational profile etc.
•Document internal and external events including seminars, workshops and conferences.
•Be the Focal person and primary liaison for all inquiries from the media, Government and other stakeholders.
•Cultivating strategic relations, collaboration and news coverage with key media organizations, executives and journalists (broadcast, print and electronic) throughout Zimbabwe, the region and the world.
•In collaboration with the Administration team provide materials and logistical support for guests/media.
•Identifying and safeguarding appropriate communications channels for public communication & advocacy initiatives.
•Development of appropriate content for IEC material including for the website, twitter, Facebook page and other online communication platforms.
•Lead the organising of seminars, workshops, conferences etc.
•Prepare, edit and present press releases, organise press conferences and presentations.
•Responsible for improving the Childline brand and visibility.
•Identify and document implementation of advocacy themes as recommended by the Organisational Development and Quality Manager through drafting policy and position papers.
•Facilitate and co-ordinate representation of Childline Zimbabwe in relevant advocacy networks and forums in order to deliver messages, opinions and concerns directly to key decision makers.
•Support awareness raising & advocacy campaigns at National level.
•Assist with input for project proposals, reports & activity plans.
•Assist the organisation in its resource mobilisation efforts, linking up all potential donors with the Resource Mobilisation Unit.
•Accurate & timely submission of reports accounting for all resources utilised, including liquidation reports, etc.
•Support & have input to the advocacy, communications & documentation budget compilation, expenditure and reporting.
•Carry out any other duties assigned by management.
Qualifications And Experience
- Degree in Communications, Journalism, Media Studies or related field.
• A Master’s Degree will be an added advantage.
• At least 3 years relevant working experience in a similar position.
• Excellent track record in advocacy, communications & documentation work in a development NGO
or agency.
• Computer literate
• Clean class 4 drivers license with at least 2 years of continuous driving experience.
• Excellent verbal & written skills, proficient in English, Shona &/or Ndebele.
• Excellent communication and networking skills
• No criminal record.
• Good interpersonal skills & management skills.
• Ability to work under pressure when assigned multiple tasks.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Strong organisational skills & time management abilities.
• Ability to conceptualise, plan & prioritise activities.
• Strong problem analysis & solving abilities.
• Ability to commit to aims principles & values of the organisation.
• Performance shall be measured by both quantitative outputs & qualitative standards set together with supervisors.
• Positive attitude to work, to the organisation & to the organisations partners, stakeholders & beneficiaries.
• Familiarity with organisation’s policies & procedures, including its vision, mission, objectives, strategic focus & programmes.
• Adherence to the organisation’s ethics, values and policies.
