How to Apply
Frequently Asked Questions
What qualifications and experience are typically required for a Commercial Director role in Zimbabwe's stock feed industry?
Employers usually require a degree in Agriculture, Animal Science, Business Administration, or Marketing, plus at least 8-10 years of senior sales or commercial experience in agribusiness. An MBA or postgraduate qualification is increasingly preferred by large corporates. Knowledge of livestock farming practices and feed formulation is highly valued in the Zimbabwean market.
What are the typical day-to-day responsibilities of a Commercial Director in the stock feed division?
You will oversee sales strategy development, manage key distributor and farmer relationships, and lead pricing and product positioning decisions. Daily tasks include reviewing sales performance against targets, negotiating with suppliers, and coordinating with production and technical teams. You will also represent the company at agricultural shows and industry forums like ZFU events.
How does the work culture and employer expectations differ in Zimbabwe compared to regional markets?
Zimbabwean employers expect high personal accountability and flexibility due to economic volatility, including managing pricing in multi-currency environments. Relationship-building with farmers and distributors is deeply personal and requires frequent field visits rather than office-based management. Loyalty and long-term commitment are valued, though performance metrics are increasingly strict.
What career progression opportunities exist after becoming a Commercial Director in the stock feed sector?
Progression typically leads to Managing Director, Country Manager, or Regional Director roles covering SADC markets. Some move into group-level positions in diversified agribusiness conglomerates. Others transition to consultancy or establish their own feed manufacturing operations given Zimbabwe's growing demand for poultry and dairy feeds.
What benefits are commonly offered to senior commercial roles in Zimbabwe's agricultural sector?
Packages usually include medical aid cover, pension contributions, and annual leave of 21-30 days depending on employer policy. Company vehicles or vehicle allowances are standard given extensive travel requirements. Performance bonuses and profit-sharing arrangements are increasingly common but vary significantly by company performance.
How should I apply for a Commercial Director position, and what do Zimbabwean employers specifically look for during selection?
Apply through agricultural industry networks, LinkedIn, and specialist recruiters like CV People Africa or local HR firms. Employers prioritize candidates with proven track records in stock feed or animal health sales, existing relationships with farming communities, and demonstrated resilience during economic downturns. Prepare for panel interviews focusing on crisis management experience and practical knowledge of Zimbabwe's livestock value chains.
