ABOUT ZRBF – BRACT
The ZRBF-BRACT programme operates in Mutoko & Mudzi districts of Mashonaland East Province. It aims at ensuring that targeted households and communities’ livelihoods are able to withstand existing and future shocks and stresses, thereby achieving wellbeing outcomes. The BRACT consortium consists of 5 technical partners namely: Christian Aid (Consortium Lead); Bio-Innovation Zimbabwe (BIZ); Community Technology Development Organisation (CTDO); Nyahunure Community Trust (NCT); & Silveira House (SH). The main pillars of the programme are; Improving community capacity to anticipate, prepare and respond to shocks and stresses to maintain productive capacity; Develop diversified, viable livelihood options adapted to climatic and socio-economic shocks and stresses; and thirdly to strengthen community voice and ability to engage service providers and enhance their participation in decision making.
Job summary
Nyahunure Community Trust is seeking an experienced and competent field officer to facilitate and deliver the Community Managed Disaster Risk Reduction (CMDRR) concept as part of Resilience Capacity strengthening within the ZRBF-BRACT target communities of Mutoko and Mudzi districts. The incumbent will refine existing DRM plans and also facilitate village and household level disaster risk assessment and planning for risk reduction and management.
Duties And Responsibilities
Strengthening community awareness on hazards, vulnerability and disaster risks through risk assessment and monitoring, as well as early warning systems at community, household and individual level. Strengthening institutional structures at district and community level to be effective in driving DRR initiatives and timely responding to emergencies and disasters that occur. Raising awareness on disaster reduction and preparedness, climate change and promotion of early action/anticipatory action among target communities. Support relevant government departments and other key stakeholders to use CMDRR knowledge, innovation and education to build a culture of safety and resilience at all levels. Establishing a road map to community resilience and link the DRR resilience to food security, WASH, environment and inclusive market systems. Participating in DRM coordination and collaboration platforms at district and consortia level. Facilitate regular awareness raising campaigns in the communities on hazards through community meetings organized by other development partners, information and education material and through mobile out-reach teams. Activate and strengthen community mobile communication platforms like WhatsApp and bulk messaging for information dissemination and follow up preparedness messages to the community. Develop and maintain an effective operational partnership and networking with District and ward leadership and first responders as necessary, ensuring smooth coordination and sharing of information with project stakeholders and other partners at all levels. Conducts DRM coordination and review meetings with the district CPC and other stakeholders. Follow up of the implementation of the Anticipatory Action Plans, Crisis Modification Plans, DRR plans ensuring integration of gender and youth.
Qualifications and experience
Degree in Disaster Management or other relevant Social Sciences qualification like Geography and Environmental Studies or Development Studies. Three (3) years’ experience in community development/resilience building work. Demonstrable knowledge and experience in the CMDRR concept is a key requirement. Training and workshop organizational/facilitation skills on DRR&M is critical. Excellent communication, teamwork, planning and community mobilization; Proficiency in Microsoft/ Windows/Word/Excel required and sound report writing skills; Must be well organized and capable of completing multiple tasks before a deadline; Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary and multicultural teams;
