CHIEF TECHNICIAN (1 POST)
Faculty of The Built Environment
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The duties and responsibilities will include the following:
Providing first-line Information Technology related support to staff members and students in the Faculty.
Assisting in the smooth running of the Local Area Network by configuring the network
points, providing cabling solutions as needed, and troubleshooting problems.
Maintaining inventory and updating software and computer hardware.
Assisting students, using hardware/software, to complete assignments in a computer laboratory setting.
Troubleshooting and diagnosing basic problems with computer equipment.
Enforcing procedures for use of computer laboratory and the use of equipment, supplies software and hardware.
Repairing and maintaining computer equipment in the Faculty.
Ensuring the security and safety of Laboratory Assets.
Maintaining and controlling the inventory of Faculty Office, assets and consumables and setting up and installing equipment and software in Laboratories and offices within the Faculty.
REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must be holders of a First Degree in Computer Science/Electronic/Information Technology
or equivalent plus at least 5 years post qualification experience OR a Masters Degree in Computer
Science/Electronic/Information Technology or equivalent plus at least 2 years post qualification
experience.
Good technical trouble shooting, problem-solving and administrative skills are essential.
Good interpersonal communication and student service skills are required.
