Zimasco (Pvt) Limited, a leading force in Zimbabwe’s Ferrochrome mining sector, is seeking a dynamic and experienced Chief Geologist to join our Shurugwi & South Dyke Mining Division. This is a high-impact leadership role suited for a geology professional with a strong background in hard rock mining, resource modelling, and exploration strategy.

About the Role

Reporting to the Mining Services Manager, the Chief Geologist will lead and supervise the geology team, oversee exploration and production geology activities, and ensure the efficient and accurate management of mineral resources. The position plays a critical role in shaping the geological understanding and future resource development of the operation.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise a team of geologists to achieve departmental goals

• Oversee mineral exploration, ore body modelling, and production geology

• Develop and implement cost-effective exploration programs

• Perform mineral resource accounting, analysis, and reconciliations

• Generate 3D ore body models using advanced geological software (Maptek preferred)

• Provide geotechnical support for mining operations

• Coach and develop junior geologists

• Ensure full compliance with SHE standards, particularly under NOSA SHE systems

• Maintain strong communication with cross-functional teams and senior management

Qualifications & Experience

• BSc Degree in Geology or equivalent from a recognized institution

• Minimum 5 years’ post-qualification experience, with at least 4 years in a geologist or senior geology role

• Proven experience in open pit and underground hard rock mining

• Proficient in geological modelling software (Maptek preferred)

• Sound understanding of resource reporting codes (SAMREC, JORC)

• Strong experience in exploration methods, including diamond and RC drilling

• Knowledge in rock mechanics and geotechnical services is an added advantage

• Familiarity with SAP ERP systems is desirable

• Clean Class 4 Driver’s Licence (mandatory)

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
