Key Responsibilities

  • Geological database design and input validation.
  • Modelling or orebodies and geology.
  • Mineral resource estimation and reconciliations.
  • Oversee mineral exploration as well as production geology work.
  • Plan and execute cost effective and efficient exploration programs.
  • Provide Geo-technical services to the mining function.
  • Supervision, development and coaching of subordinates.
  • SHE Management within the Geology section.

Requirements

  • BSc (Hons) Degree in Geology or equivalent from a reputable tertiary institution plus at least 5 years post qualification experience, 4 years of which should have been at Geologist level or higher in both an open pit and underground hard rock mining environment and covering both production and exploration geology.
  • Extensive geological orebody modeling and estimation software experience is a critical requirement. Practical mastery of Maptek geological software is a distinct advantage.
  • Experience in using geostatistical packages.
  • Practical experience in rock mechanics and associated geo-technical work.
  • Sound knowledge of mineral resource management systems, specifically the SAMREC and JORC Codes.
  • Practical knowledge and understanding of various exploration methods including but not limited to geophysical exploration methods, diamond drilling and reverse circulation drilling, as well as the associated analysis and modelling of exploration results/data.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of safety management systems applicable to large scale mining operations/companies, preferably the NOSA and/or ISO Systems.
  • Good working knowledge and experience of an ERP system, preferably SAP.
  • Holder of a clean Class 4 Driver’s Licence.
