Frequently Asked Questions
What qualifications and certifications are typically required for the CEO role at SECZIM?
Applicants usually need a relevant postgraduate degree (e.g., MBA, LLM, or MSc in Finance, Law, or Economics) and professional certifications such as CA(Z), CFA, or CISI qualifications. Extensive experience in financial regulation, capital markets oversight, or senior public-sector leadership in Zimbabwe is essential, with preference given to those familiar with the Securities and Exchange Act [Chapter 24:24] and local market dynamics.
What does a typical day look like for the CEO of SECZIM?
The CEO oversees regulatory enforcement, policy implementation, board reporting, stakeholder engagement with stockbrokers, issuers, and government ministries, and leads strategic reviews of Zimbabwe’s capital markets framework. Daily responsibilities include reviewing compliance reports, chairing executive committee meetings, liaising with the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe and Ministry of Finance, and representing SECZIM at regional forums like the African Securities Exchanges Association (ASEA).
How does Zimbabwe’s work culture influence expectations for this executive role?
Respect for hierarchy, formal communication protocols, and strong alignment with national development goals (e.g., Vision 2030 and the National Development Strategy 1) are deeply embedded in public-sector leadership expectations. CEOs are expected to demonstrate integrity, public accountability, and cultural fluency — including sensitivity to local governance norms, consensus-building across diverse stakeholders, and visible commitment to financial inclusion and investor protection in a high-inflation, cash-constrained environment.
What career progression paths exist after serving as CEO of SECZIM?
Past CEOs have transitioned into ministerial appointments, chairmanships of state-owned enterprises (e.g., Zimra, RBZ advisory roles), or regional leadership positions in SADC financial regulatory bodies. Others pursue board directorships in listed companies or return to private practice as capital markets consultants — though post-tenure employment is subject to the Public Service Commission’s cooling-off period and ethics guidelines under the Public Service Act.
What benefits are typically offered to the CEO of SECZIM?
Standard statutory benefits apply, including pension contributions under the Government Employees Pension Fund (GEPF), full medical aid coverage through a government-accredited provider, and 30 days’ annual leave plus public holidays. Additional allowances — such as housing, transport, and representational — are determined by the Public Service Commission and Treasury, and may be reviewed periodically in line with public service remuneration frameworks.
How do I apply, and what do employers in Zimbabwe specifically look for in candidates for this role?
Applications are advertised publicly via the SECZIM website, Government Gazette, and major newspapers like The Herald and NewsDay, requiring submission of a CV, certified academic/professional certificates, and a detailed motivation letter. Employers prioritise demonstrable regulatory leadership in Zimbabwean capital markets, proven success in reforming supervisory frameworks, familiarity with local legislation and institutions, and endorsements from credible financial sector stakeholders — not just international credentials.
