Job Title: CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER (CEO)

Role Purpose: Biotech Pharmaceuticals Zimbabwe (BPZ) Pvt. Ltd is a multi-institutional biopharmaceutical Start-up enterprise established under the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development. Our mission is to develop and manufacture human and veterinary medicines and vaccines, diagnostics equipment, and therapeutics, anchored on research and innovation, and technology transfer. Our vision is to become a locally leading high-tech medicines, vaccines and pharmaceutical manufacturer in Africa by 2035.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the operationalisation of BPZ’s governance and administration systems, including infrastructure development, operational systems, team formation, and regulatory set-up.
  • Oversee the management of the entity’s day-to-day operations, research and innovation, regulatory activities, business ventures, and marketing of high-value pharmaceutical products and medical devices.
  • Formulate and implement the entity’s short, medium-and long-term strategic plans ensuring all partner institutions have clear mandates and operational goals.
  • Ensure BPZ (Pvt.) Ltd prioritizes availability and/or development of new biotechnological pharmaceutical products and innovations in response to identified market opportunities both locally, the region and internationally.
  • Oversee the entity’s fiscal activity, and be accountable for the generation of planned revenue, budgeting, reporting, auditing, and implementing measures to ensure sustainability.
  • Provide leadership in the creation, development and nurturing of high value business linkages and partnerships with the private and public sector to increase the BPZ’s contribution to Zimbabwe’s industrialisation and modernization agenda.
  • Undertake resource mobilisation activities to support, research and innovation, and business development in line with the country’s Heritage-based Education 5.0 Philosophy.
  • Negotiate agreements and contracts for and on behalf of the entity.
  • Align company growth with the National Vision 2030 and the National Development blueprint.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a Master’s degree in Biotechnology, Pharmacy, Drug Discovery, Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, Medicine, and Health Sciences, Veterinary Science, Engineering, Law or related field. A business or leadership qualification would be a strong advantage.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ leadership experience in biopharmaceuticals and pharmaceutical manufacturing sector or/in high-value project management.
  • Demonstrated capability to lead Start-up ventures.
  • A track record in resource mobilisation, infrastructure development, and institutional capacity building.
  • A deep understanding of Zimbabwe’s national development agenda, including Heritage-based Education 5.0, NDS2 and Vision 2030.
  • In-depth knowledge of corporate governance and management best practices, with high analytical abilities and problem-solving skills.
  • An entrepreneurial mindset supported by evidence of outstanding organisational, leadership, and communication skills.
  • The ideal candidate must be able to understand the intricate linkages among innovation, industrialisation and national development, and be ready to mobilise resources, lead in infrastructure development, project management and operationalisation, and build cross-sector partnerships for success.
  • Experience at executive level with a proven track record of managing strategy delivery processes, finances and people is essential.
  • Familiarity with regulatory frameworks in the Zimbabwe Health Sector and public procurement systems are essential, while ability to harness AI and emerging technologies in manufacturing and decision-making is an added advantage.
