Job Title: Chaplain
Role Purpose:
To act as a spiritual guide, officiant, and emotional support figure for the deceased’s family and friends. Their role focuses on providing comfort, honoring the deceased, and guiding the funeral service.
Key Responsibilities
- Prospect, solicit and secure new business to meet revenue targets.
- Receive bereaved clients with kindness and compassion.
- Introduce families to the consultant responsible for arranging the funeral.
- Work closely with morticians to ensure the deceased is washed, dressed, and clothed with dignity, using garments provided by family members.
- Inform families about changes that may occur to the deceased’s body after embalming or other chemical treatments.
- Facilitate private body viewing sessions for close relatives before opening to the wider family.
- Ensure strict adherence to daily funeral programs, managing chapel schedules to avoid confusion or delays.
- Preach at funerals when families do not have a designated preacher, keeping sermons concise (maximum 10 minutes).
- Create a conducive environment for family-appointed preachers to minister effectively.
- Provide emotional guidance and answer questions about the deceased’s body on behalf of morticians and consultants.
- Conduct follow-up visits to bereaved families at their homes within a week to offer comfort and support.
- Counsel employees facing socio-economic challenges.
- Visit sick staff members at their homes to provide encouragement and support.
- Lead daily morning prayers to foster a positive and spiritually uplifting workplace culture.
Requirements
- Degree in Theology or any related field.
- Valid Class 2/4 driver’s licence.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in ministry, pastoral care, or a related field.
- Experience in conducting funeral services, memorial services, or similar rites is essential.
