Carpenter X 4 (Fixed Term Contract)

DEPARTMENT: ENGINEERING SERVICES

REPORTING TO: MAINTENANCE SUPERINTENDENT

Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the above mentioned position which has become vacant in the Engineering Services Department.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

– Designing and installing wooden structures.

– Reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings and sketches.

– Repairing and renovating wooden structures.

– Measuring, cutting and joining materials made of wood and wood substitutes.

– Fitting and installing trim, doors, stairs and hardware.

– Measuring, marking and arranging materials.

– Erecting and dismantling scaffolding

– Ensuring the accuracy of work by checking completed projects.

– Any other duties assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

A successful candidate should have the following qualifications and experience

– Class 1 Carpentry and Joinery Journeyman Card.

– National Certificate in Carpentry and Joinery is an added advantage. Minimum 3 years’ experience.

– A clean criminal record.

– Knowledge of materials, methods and the tools involved in carpentry.

– Ability to understand directions and read blueprints.

– Ability to properly care for and use tools of the trade.

– Thorough understanding of carpentry principles and methods.

– Ability to work in teams.
