BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT, SALES & MARKETING INTERNS – africanunicorn

African Unicorn is looking for interns who enjoy meeting people, understanding what they need and turning a useful conversation into a real customer relationship. This is a hands-on role for people who want to sell, follow through and learn from the field.

We build products around practical problems. TakeOFF (https://takeoff.africanunicorn.co.zw/) helps people move packages and discover local businesses through its marketplace (https://takeoff.africanunicorn.co.zw/marketplace). Telly (https://telly.africanunicorn.co.zw/) is a personal assistant people can explore for themselves. Our longer-term ambition is to connect people, businesses and services more usefully.

Job Summary

  • Employer: africanunicorn
  • Job Type: Internship
  • Location: Harare, Zimbabwe
  • Category: Sales
  • Closing Date: 2026-09-25

Key Responsibilities

  • Meet potential customers, drivers and business owners; learn how they work and what would make a product worth using.
  • Explain relevant TakeOFF and Telly use cases in plain language, demonstrate the value and follow up with care.
  • Help interested drivers and businesses complete onboarding, and keep accurate records of conversations, objections and outcomes.
  • Explore how local sellers might use a marketplace and how businesses could make delivery part of their own customer experience. Tell us what they need; do not promise features that are still being developed.
  • Work with the product team to turn field feedback into clearer pitches and better customer journeys.

Requirements

  • You can start a conversation, listen closely, ask useful questions and make a clear case for value. You are persistent and comfortable hearing “no”; you learn what is behind an objection, follow up when welcome and respect a clear decision. You take responsibility for moving a promising lead through to a completed, verified outcome. You can explain how drivers, customers and businesses each benefit, and you are willing to learn the products before selling them. Prior sales experience is useful, but practical initiative and evidence of how you think matter more.

Frequently Asked Questions

What qualifications or education do I need to apply for a Business Development, Sales & Marketing Internship in Zimbabwe?

Most employers require at least a diploma or degree in Marketing, Business Administration, or a related field from institutions like UZ, MSU, or accredited colleges. Strong communication skills and basic computer literacy are essential. Previous experience in retail or informal trading can be an advantage even without formal qualifications.

What are the typical day-to-day responsibilities of a Sales and Marketing Intern?

Interns usually assist with market research, cold calling potential clients, managing social media accounts, and supporting sales teams with client meetings. You may also help prepare proposals, track competitor activity, and participate in promotional events. Expect to spend time both in the office and traveling to meet clients.

How does workplace culture differ for interns in Zimbabwean companies?

Zimbabwean workplaces value respect for hierarchy, punctuality, and formal dress codes especially in corporate settings. Interns are expected to be proactive, show initiative, and build relationships through networking. Many companies operate with limited resources, so flexibility and problem-solving are highly appreciated.

What career progression can I expect after completing this internship?

Successful interns often transition to permanent roles as Sales Representatives, Marketing Officers, or Junior Business Development Associates. With experience, you can advance to Account Manager or Marketing Manager positions. Some professionals move into entrepreneurship or consulting within five to ten years.

What benefits should I expect as an intern, and when do full benefits typically start?

Internships in Zimbabwe usually offer modest stipends rather than full salaries, with benefits like medical aid and pension contributions typically reserved for permanent staff. Some larger companies may provide transport or meal allowances. Always clarify terms in your contract before accepting any offer.

How should I apply, and what do Zimbabwean employers look for in candidates?

Apply through company websites, LinkedIn, or job portals like VacancyMail and join WhatsApp groups where opportunities are shared. Employers value a well-written CV, professional references, and demonstrated results from university projects or side hustles. Prepare for practical assessments like mock sales pitches during interviews.
