ACT in Africa is a youth-focused social impact organisation that seeks to stimulate innovation and employment growth through human-centered design (HCD). We train Zimbabwean youth in HCD and other soft skills, and offer consultancy services to corporates and NGOs.
Job summary
We are looking for an ambitious and energetic individual who will be playing a dual role as a Business Development/Project Manager to help us grow the organisation. You will be the front of the organization and must have the experience to implement an effective communications and sales strategy. This is a senior role requiring interaction with a range of internal and external stakeholders, most often managing several moving project parts simultaneously.
Your main objective is to drive sustainable financial growth by securing viable business opportunities and forging strong relationships with clients to increase market share and revenue.
As the business development manager of the organization you will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of business objectives by identifying sales leads, pitching the organizations product offering to new clients, and maintaining an excellent working relationship with new contacts.
From a project management prospective, your main responsibilities will be to source, plan, oversee, and lead projects while meeting strict deadlines.
You are a ‘people person’ and an effective communicator with very high professional standards. You have a business-oriented mindset while caring deeply about the social, economic, and environmental impact of the organisation’s activities. You understand that an organisation’s success is driven by customer satisfaction.
Key responsibilities
Business development
Develop a strong understanding of ACT’s products or services as well as their value proposition; Identify and maintain an eye on the competition; Develop a growth strategy and set yearly revenue targets; Maintain current client relationship and identifying areas for further collaboration; Actively seek and respond to tenders and bids; Conduct research to identify new markets and customer needs; Arrange business development meetings with prospective clients and prepare presentations; Write business proposals; Negotiate with stakeholders; Prepare sales contracts ensuring adherence to law-established rules and guidelines; Provide after-sales support; Build long-term relationships with new and existing customers; Develop entry level staff into valuable members of the organisation; Collaborate with HCD research team to ensure client requirements are met; Promote ACT’s products/services whenever possible
Project management
Creating long- and short-term project plans, including setting targets and deadlines; Assign tasks to employees best positioned to complete them; Make effective decisions when presented with multiple options for how to progress with the project; Serve as a point of contact for teams when multiple units are assigned to the same project to ensure team actions remain in synergy; Communicating with the client to keep the project aligned with their goals; Performing quality control on the project throughout implementation to maintain the highest professional standard; Adjusting schedules and targets on the project as needs or financing for the project change
Ideally candidate (s) should have:
BSc/BA in business administration, sales, marketing, or relevant field; Masters Degree is a plus; At least 5 years of business development and/or project management experience (Proof of working experience in business development, sales executive, project management or a relevant role); Experience in human-centered design is a distinct advantage; The ability to function effectively in a team setting; Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multitasking skills; Consistent professional conduct and meticulous attention to detail; Excellent verbal and written communication skills; Good negotiation skills are a strong plus; Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build rapport with public sector, NGO community players corporate executives; Some experience monitoring and evaluating for a social impact organisation would be a plus; Strong Proficiency in MS Office and project management tools; Time management and planning skills; Ability to flourish with minimal guidance, be proactive, and handle uncertainty; The ability to self-motivate and motivate a team
