The African Union Commission is hiring! Join the African Union’s Africa CDC as a Kofi Annan Resource Mobilization Expert (AfCDC). The African Union Commission, through Africa CDC, is establishing the African Volunteers Health Corps (AVoHC) to deploy skilled African public health professionals during health emergencies and public health interventions. The initiative aims to strengthen Africa’s capacity to prevent, detect, and respond to health threats and to promote health security and sovereignty across the continent. The Resource Mobilization Expert will provide high-level technical support to national governments and National Public Health Institutes (NPHIs). The role involves designing and implementing resource mobilization strategies, identifying funding sources, establishing partnerships, and contributing to institutional capacity building to ensure the financial sustainability of public health initiatives in Africa.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead assessments of resource mobilization frameworks and sustainability mechanisms
- Develop comprehensive resource mobilization strategies tailored to national contexts
- Identify and engage potential partners including donors, agencies, private sector, and foundations
- Draft funding proposals, concept notes, and investment cases aligned with health priorities
- Establish and nurture domestic and international partnerships for health system investments
- Monitor and report on resource mobilization outcomes and impacts
- Develop training materials, technical guidelines, and communication tools to support fundraising and partnership efforts
Requirements
- Master’s or Doctoral degree in Public Health, International Development, Business Administration, or related field
- Certification in fundraising, grant writing, or partnership development is an asset
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience in resource mobilization, fundraising, and donor engagement
- Proven ability to prepare high-quality funding proposals and engage with bilateral, multilateral, philanthropic, or private sector funders
- Designing and implementing fundraising and partnership strategies
- Developing persuasive investment cases for health priorities
- Proposal and technical document writing
- Stakeholder management, negotiation, and diplomacy
- Ability to work independently under pressure and tight deadlines
- Strong analytical, creative, and problem-solving skills
- High emotional intelligence, adaptability, and resilience
- Effective team collaboration in multicultural settings
- Proficiency in at least one AU working language (English, French, Arabic, Portuguese, Spanish, Swahili)
