Applications are invited from suitably qualified, experienced, self-motivated and task-oriented individuals to fill the vacancy of Assistant Director – Environmental Health Services that has arisen within the City of Gweru. JOB PURPOSE: To provide strategic oversight and management of Public Health, Health Surveillance, Water and Sanitation standards, Food Safety and Hygiene, Solid Waste and Disease Control Programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assisting in the planning, coordination, implementation, and monitoring of Disease surveillance programs, pest and pest control, meat and meat hygiene programs and Disease outbreak control.
  • Overseeing food hygiene inspections, water quality monitoring, waste management and pollution control initiatives.
  • Developing and implementing environmental health policies, strategies, and programmes in line with relevant legislation and Council policies.
  • Managing environmental health emergencies and public health risks.
  • Preparing departmental budgets, work plans, and performance reports
  • Advising the Director of Health Services on all Environmental Health issues.
  • Conducting stakeholder engagement and public health awareness programmes.
  • Enforcing Municipal By-Laws and National Laws.
  • Monitoring departmental performance and recommending continuous service improvements.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s Degree from a recognised institution in Environmental or Public Health Degree or an equivalent qualification.
  • Master’s Degree in Environmental Health or related field is an added advantage.
  • Registration with the Environmental Health Practitioners Council of Zimbabwe is a must.
  • A Valid Practising Certificate is mandatory.
  • At least four (4) years progressive post-qualification experience at middle or senior level.
  • A citizen of Zimbabwe
  • No criminal record.
  • A clean Class 4 Driver’s Licence.
