ADMINISTRATION ASSISTANT/ DRIVER – TechnoServe

About TechnoServe: Everyone deserves the opportunity to build a better future. This simple idea has been at the heart of TechnoServe’s work around the world for over 50 years. TechnoServe is a pioneer in leveraging the power of business and markets to create sustainable pathways out of poverty. The low-income communities in which we work are full of enterprising people. Their small-scale farms and businesses are the keys to economic development. But they face many challenges: low literacy, lack of access to jobs and markets, unpredictable political dynamics and, increasingly, the effects of climate change. For many women and young people, the challenges are even more daunting. Working with TechnoServe staff, people around the world are lifting themselves out of poverty. The results are amazing…when incomes increase and living conditions for families get better, they are able to access health care and education previously out of reach. Communities and even whole countries are better off.

Frequently Asked Questions

What qualifications do I need to apply for an Administration Assistant/Driver role at TechnoServe in Zimbabwe?

Most employers require a minimum of 5 O-Level passes including English and Mathematics, plus a diploma or certificate in Business Administration or Secretarial Studies. A valid Class 2 driver's license with a clean driving record is essential, and defensive driving certification is often preferred. Previous experience in office administration and driving duties strengthens your application significantly.

What are the typical day-to-day responsibilities of this combined role?

You will manage office filing, schedule appointments, handle correspondence, and support procurement processes while also transporting staff, documents, and supplies to various locations. The role requires balancing desk work with driving duties, including vehicle maintenance checks and logbook management. Flexibility is key as priorities can shift between administrative tasks and urgent transport needs.

How does the work culture in Zimbabwean NGOs like TechnoServe differ from private sector companies?

NGO environments typically emphasize mission-driven work, community impact, and collaborative decision-making rather than strict hierarchical structures. You may experience more flexible hours during field visits but tighter compliance requirements for documentation and reporting. Professionalism is highly valued, and building trust through reliability and discretion is crucial for long-term success.

What career progression opportunities exist for someone in this dual administrative and driving role?

With strong performance, you can advance to Office Administrator, Logistics Coordinator, or Operations Assistant positions within the organization. Gaining additional qualifications in project management, supply chain, or fleet management opens doors to specialized roles. Many Zimbabwean professionals use NGO experience as a stepping stone to international development careers or transition to corporate operations roles.

What benefits should I expect from an Administration Assistant/Driver position with an international NGO in Zimbabwe?

Standard benefits typically include medical aid coverage, pension contributions, and annual leave in line with Zimbabwean Labour Act requirements. Some employers provide transport allowances, meal subsidies, or professional development funding. Always confirm specific benefits during the interview process, as packages vary by donor funding levels and organizational policy.

How should I prepare my application to stand out for this role in Zimbabwe's competitive job market?

Tailor your CV to highlight both administrative competencies and your driving experience with specific vehicle types and distances covered. Include references from previous employers who can attest to your reliability, integrity, and time management under pressure. Submit through official channels only, and follow up politely after two weeks if you have not received a response.
