Accounts Officer – Zambezi River Authority
The Authority is seeking highly motivated, suitably qualified and experienced Zimbabwean national to fill the position of Accounts Officer on permanent and pensionable employment service to be based in Kariba.
JOB PURPOSE
To ensure smooth operation of the Kariba Office by overseeing the processing of payments, maintenance of general ledger and inventory accounting.
Under the supervision of the Manager —Finance and Administration, the Accounts Officer will carry out the following key responsibilities
1. Checking source documents (payment vouchers, receipt vouchers, journal, petty cash summaries, supplier’s invoices, etc.) in order to ensure their validity and whether they are correctly coded or not.
2. Processing payments in accordance with Authorisation limits.
3. Checking and validating inputs before final posting to the Ledgers.
4. Reviewing the Trial Balance monthly for any mis-postings and unusual balances
5. Preparing the payroll for Zimbabwe based employees by ensuring that all input data is accurate before payroll processing and preparation of Payroll Journals.
6. Reviewing control account balances (payroll, Inventory, pension, bank loans, tax, etc.) in order to ensure completeness of posting.
7. Reviewing receivables and payables ledgers in order to ensure timely reconciliation and collection of debts / payment of invoices.
8. Obtaining data on casual employees and computing payments for casual employees from given time sheets.
9. Verifying Petty Cash transactions, checking requisitions, banking statements and receipts in order to ensure proper procedures are followed and the accuracy of the transactions.
10. Calculating and posting interest on overdue accounts, fixed deposit accounts, employee car loans, house loans and other loans.
11. Calculating and posting exchange losses/gains upon recovery of employee car loans and house loans and other transactions denominated in currencies other than the base currency.
12. Checking bank reconciliations and making necessary adjustments, including exchange losses/gains on accounts affected.
13. Reconciling inter country transactions.
14. Calculating and updating leave pay provisions, other provisions and accrual accounts
15. Ensuring that income receivable is completely and correctly accounted for.
16. Supervising stores in order to ensure that issues and receipts are fully authorized and monthly reports are
prepared.
17. Performing the monthly cash count and producing certificates, spot checking sporadically as and when deemed necessary.
18. Agreeing performance standards with team members at the beginning of the performance cycle.
19. Monitoring and conducting performance assessments for subordinates’ performance against agreed standards. 20. Checking and authorizing payments u p to set limits.
21. Ensuring correct computation of taxes, social security, pension and gratuity
22. Ensuring timely filing of returns.
23. Ensuring timely settlement of statutory obligations.
24. Reconciling the Authority’s records with those of the regulatory Authorities.
25. Ensuring effective processing of the month and year end procedures in respect of the preparation of audit schedules against trial balance monthly.
QUALIFICATIONS& EXPERIENCE
General Education:
• Five ‘0’ Level passes Academic / Professional Qualifications:
• Diploma in Accounting (ACCA Level 2 / CIMA Level 2) or equivalent
• Advanced Computer Skills in Microsoft Office
• Knowledge of the Sun System or SAP will bean added advantage.
• Knowledge of Zambian and Zimbabwe tax regulations
• Membership of a Professional Body
Experience
• Three (3) years of relevant experience
