ACCOUNTING AND ECONOMICS TEACHER

You need a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Economics or a related field, plus a teaching qualification such as a Diploma in Education or a teaching certificate from the Zimbabwe Institute of Education. Many schools also accept professional qualifications like ACCA or CIMA if accompanied by a teaching diploma. A Master’s degree can enhance your prospects but is not mandatory.

Daily tasks include preparing lesson plans, delivering lectures, and managing classroom activities. Teachers assess student work, provide feedback, and coordinate with school administration on curriculum implementation. They often spend time grading assignments and supervising student projects or competitions.

Zimbabwean schools value punctuality, discipline and a collaborative spirit. Teachers are expected to follow school policies, maintain professional conduct and engage with parents during meetings. In rural areas, teachers may also take on additional community responsibilities such as organising local events.

Progression can lead to senior lecturer, head of department or curriculum coordinator roles. Experienced teachers may pursue postgraduate studies (M.Ed., M.Sc.) to qualify for higher positions. Some move into educational administration or policy roles within the Ministry of Education.

Benefits vary by employer but commonly include paid annual leave (usually 20–30 days), sick leave and a pension scheme for public sector teachers. Many schools offer medical aid contributions or health insurance, and some provide housing allowances or transport stipends. Private schools may offer performance bonuses or professional development allowances.
