Accountant – Microfinance

Applications are invited to fill the vacant position of Accountant that has arisen in our organisation. Reporting to the Finance Manager the main roles and responsibilities of this role will include:

Duties and Responsibilities

• Supervising and checking daily disbursements, payments (including purchase requisitions and orders) and capital expenditures
• Mitigating business risks through implementation of process controls and ensuring that controls are followed
• Leading in the implementation of technical accounting standards
• Leading the team in internal and external audit engagements and attending to issues raised by auditors
• Preparing monthly management accounts and commentary, analysing actual performance vs budget
• Providing insightful recommendations and presentation of this information at Strategy Performance Review (SPR)
• Attending committee meetings and assisting in the preparation of minutes from the committees
• Preparing half year and year end audited financial statements
• Preparing Annual Financial Statements (Statutory Accounts)
• Assisting in the preparation of annual budgets and forecasts

Key qualifications, experience 8 competencies

• A Degree in Accounting with a professional qualification in ACCA/CIMA/CA
• At least 3-years’ experience in a similar role
• Microfinance background is an added advantage
• Knowledge of Accounting Standards is a must
• Advanced Excel knowledge
• Attention to detail and organized with strong analytical skills
• Self-motivated, goal oriented and able to deliver results with minimal supervision
