JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION : BRICKLAYER X 5 (FIXED TERM CONTRACT)
GRADE : 5
DEPARTMENT : ENGINEERING SERVICES
REPORTING TO : MAINTENANCE SUPERINTENDENT

Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the above mentioned position which has become vacant in the Engineering Services Department.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

A successful candidate should have the following qualifications and experience

• Class 1 Bricklaying and Blocklaying Joumeyman Card.
• National Certificate in Brick and Blocklaying is an added advantage.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience.
• A clean criminal record.

PERSONAL SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES

• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• Knowledge of materials, methods and the tools involved in brick and blocklaying.
• Ability to understand directions and read blueprints.
• Ability to property care for and use tools of the trade.
• Thorough understanding of brick and blocklaying principles and methods.
• Honest, reliable and responsible.
• Problem-solving ability.
• Ability to work in teams.
• Be thorough and pay attention to detail.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Laying bricks
• Using equipment and tools effectively to perform basic construction tasks.
• Analyzing and interpreting building plans.
• Working safely on scaffolds at various heights.
• Interpreting work orders and determining the materials required.
• Creating and maintaining structures, walls and foundations.
• Any other duties assigned.
