Defold Mine (Private) Limited seeks to recruit highly skilled and experienced Legal Officer with strong knowledge of mining law and compliance to join our legal department.
Reports to: Company Secretary/Legal Advisor

Purpose Of The Job:
The position will provide expert legal support and ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and company policies. This is a critical role that requires protecting the company’s interests and minimizing legal risks.

The Incumbent will be responsible for:
• Ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards.
• Monitoring changes in legislation and advise management on legal implications.
• Developing and implement compliance policies and procedures.
• Conducting regular compliance audits and investigations.
• Drafting, reviews, and negotiates contracts, agreements, and other legal documents.
• Providing legal advice on contractual rights and obligations to the Head of Department
• Conducting legal research on various matters and analyse legal issues.
• Representing the company in legal proceedings and collaborate with external legal counsel.
• Identifying legal risks, develop strategies to mitigate them, and assess their potential impact.
• Conducting legal training sessions and promote legal awareness within the organization.
• Maintaining an updated contract management system.
• Creating and maintains a knowledge base of legal resources for reference.
• Preparing legal opinions and briefs for internal and external stakeholders.
• Providing feedback on allocated tasks and reviews contracts drafted by stakeholders
• Assisting the Company Secretary in preparing Board packs and minute taking

The ideal incumbent must possess the following minimum qualifications, competences and experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Law or a related field. A Master’s degree in mining or law related field is an added advantage.
• Admission and registration with the Law Society in Zimbabwe.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant legal experience, preferably in the mining industry
• Analytical and problem-solving skills
• Strong drafting skills
• Deep understanding of corporate governance and international best practise standards
• Aclean class 4 drivers license
