Frequently Asked Questions
What qualifications or certifications do I need to become a Security Supervisor at National Handling Services in Zimbabwe?
Most employers require a minimum of 5 O-level passes including English and Mathematics, plus a diploma or certificate in Security Management from institutions like the Zimbabwe Republic Police Training Depot or private security colleges. A valid Class A or B security operator's license from the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA) is essential. Prior military or police experience is often highly regarded.
What are the typical day-to-day responsibilities of a Security Supervisor at NHS?
You will oversee security personnel shifts, conduct patrols of company premises, monitor CCTV systems, and ensure compliance with access control procedures. Supervisors also prepare incident reports, liaise with local police stations, and brief management on security risks. You may be required to respond to emergencies during odd hours including weekends.
How does the work culture and employer expectations differ for security roles in Zimbabwe compared to other countries?
Zimbabwean employers typically expect high respect for hierarchy and formal communication protocols, with supervisors maintaining strict discipline among guards. Punctuality is critical given transport challenges in cities like Harare and Bulawayo, and many roles demand flexibility beyond standard hours. Building trust with management through loyalty and discretion is valued more than in Western workplace cultures.
What career progression opportunities exist for Security Supervisors in Zimbabwe's security industry?
With experience, supervisors can advance to Security Manager or Operations Manager roles within large firms like NHS or multinational security companies. Some transition into corporate risk management, private investigations, or establish their own registered security firms. Further qualifications such as a degree in Criminology or Risk Management from the University of Zimbabwe can accelerate advancement.
What benefits are typically included in full-time security supervisor positions with established Zimbabwean companies?
Established employers usually provide medical aid through schemes like CIMAS or PSMAS, pension contributions to NSSA or private funds, and annual leave of 21-30 days depending on tenure. Some offer transport allowances or company vehicles given irregular hours, and protective equipment is standard. Housing allowances are less common unless the role requires on-site residence.
How should I apply for a Security Supervisor position at National Handling Services, and what do Zimbabwean employers prioritize in candidates?
Submit a detailed CV with certified copies of academic certificates, PSIRA license, and reference letters from previous security employers to the company's HR department or advertised email address. Zimbabwean employers prioritize proven leadership experience, clean criminal records verified by police clearance, and reliability demonstrated through stable employment history. Personal connections and referrals from current employees can significantly strengthen your application.
