What are the common day-to-day responsibilities for this role?

You will typically greet customers at the counter, identify the correct tyre size and type for their vehicle, and prepare quotations or invoices. The job also involves checking stock levels, liaising with fitters in the workshop, and following up on customer orders or payments.

What is the local work culture and what expectations do Zimbabwean employers have for counter sales staff?

Employers expect punctuality, neat presentation, and the ability to work under pressure during busy periods such as month-end or before holidays. Strong customer service in English and local languages like Shona or Ndebele is highly valued because building repeat business depends on trust and clear communication.

What career progression can I realistically expect from a Tyre Countersales Person position?

With consistent sales performance and product knowledge, you can progress to senior counter sales, branch supervisor, or assistant branch manager roles. Some people also move into fleet account management or tyre technical sales after gaining experience with commercial and passenger tyre brands.

What typical benefits should I expect, such as leave, medical aid, or pension?

Full-time counter sales roles in Zimbabwe commonly include paid annual leave, sick leave, and sometimes a basic medical aid contribution depending on the employer. Many established companies also offer a pension or NSSA contribution, and some provide a small monthly allowance or commission on top of the basic salary.

How do I apply and what do employers in Zimbabwe look for in a strong applicant?

You should submit a concise CV with a clear summary of your sales or customer service experience, plus certified copies of your qualifications. Employers look for candidates who can show product knowledge, honesty in handling cash, and a willingness to learn tyre specifications for cars, SUVs, and light trucks.
