Are you passionate about climate justice, energy sovereignty, creative campaigning and building youth- led movements across Africa? We are looking for a strategic and highly organised leader to coordinate Fired Up, a network of young African climate activists, creators and creatives. The Fired Up initiative is hosted by Magamba Network, Africa’s trailblazing creative and digital media organisation. The role of Fired Up Officer involves developing Africa-wide campaigns, managing teams and project resources, building partnerships, supporting advocacy and policy engagement, and overseeing storytelling, monitoring, reporting and fundraising. The ideal candidate can combine strategy, project management, advocacy and creativity to challenge fossil-fuel influence, climate disinformation and sportswashing while promoting a just and inclusive renewable-energy transition for Africa, rooted in Indigenous knowledge.

Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate the Fired Up network of young African climate justice activists, creators and creatives
- Develop and implement innovative campaigns to challenge sportswashing and reputation laundering by major fossil fuels companies on the continent
- Develop creative campaigns to raise awareness amongst young Africans about the need for a Just Energy Transition that isn’t anchored on fossil fuels.
- Oversee initiatives aimed at supporting information integrity and challenging Big Tech-driven disinformation about the climate crisis
- Support the incubation of a new generation of young climate activists and creators using creative & digital platforms
- Coordinate with the project team to align campaign goals with overall organizational objectives.
- Lead and manage a multidisciplinary team of activists, creatives and content creators, providing guidance, support, and performance evaluations.
- Foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment.
- Ensure effective allocation of resources and manage the project budget.
- Identify, oversee, and manage key campaign participants and initiatives, ensuring they align with the Fired Up’s goals.
- Oversee editorial policy for all campaign materials and publications to ensure consistency and impact.
- Manage and coordinate capacity-building initiatives and all training sessions related to climate justice advocacy and renewable energy for participants and stakeholders.
- Organize and manage various outreach programs, workshops, and events to promote Fired Up’s objectives.
- Conceptualize and roll out Africa-wide campaigns, ensuring strategic alignment with overall goals.
- Organize focus group discussions to establish community needs and baselines.
- Liaise with relevant local authorities and stakeholders to foster collaboration and support.
- Manage personnel, interns, and other resource people involved in the project.
- Monitor and evaluate the progress of the project, implementing project monitoring frameworks, indicators, targets, data collection tools, and M&E plans.
- Compile regular reports on the project’s progress, including monthly and quarterly reports on activities, outputs, and relevant outcome indicators.
- Assist in fundraising and proposal writing to secure resources for the Fired Up project and Magamba in general.
- Compile a final report on the project, summarizing outcomes and impact.
- Build and maintain a network of climate advocates, CSOs, community groups, independent media platforms and social movements to strengthen the Fired Up movement’s reach and impact.
- Facilitate partnerships and collaborations to strengthen the Fired Up’s impact and reach.
- Represent Magamba Network in meetings, conferences, and public fora.
- Lead advocacy efforts to influence policy changes at regional, continental and international levels.
- Develop policy briefs, position papers, and other advocacy materials.
- Engage with policymakers to promote legislation that supports the transition to decentralized, socially owned renewable energy.
- Organise Africa-wide actions and gatherings to achieve key campaign goals and progressive policy demands.
- Work closely with the Storytelling team to develop communication strategies to raise awareness and garner public support for Fired Up’s campaigns
- Brainstorm and produce flagship hero content with the Storytelling Lead and Fired Up Coordination Team
- Coordinate Fired Up’s social media presence and content strategy with the Storytelling Associate, ensuring effective engagement and mobilization of the public.
- Assist the Storytelling Associate with media relations, including drafting press releases, press interviews and op-eds.
- Utilize digital platforms and social media to amplify campaign messages and mobilize supporters.
- Innovate and initiate new content, including videos and multimedia materials, to support Fired Up’s goals.
- Analyze climate science and data to inform campaign strategies and measure the effectiveness of advocacy efforts.
- Stay informed on the latest developments in climate policy, renewable energy technologies & climate movement organizing.
- Comply with in-house policy, systems and procedures of the organisation at all times
- Work as part of a team in contributing towards meeting the organisation’s objectives
- Assist in generating revenue and income for the organisation through consultancies and other fundraising avenues
Requirements
- The ideal candidate should have a degree or recognised professional qualification in Communications, Journalism, Media Studies, Digital Media, Marketing, Public Relations, International Development, Human Rights, Political Science, Creative Writing, or a related field.
- At least three years of relevant experience in climate justice, advocacy, strategic communications, creative campaigning, youth movement-building, or programme coordination.
- Demonstrated experience developing and coordinating multi-country or Africa-wide campaigns, preferably involving young people, activists, creators, or civil society organisation
- Familiarity with climate disinformation typologies and fact-checking methodology
- Experience or demonstrated interest in Indigenous knowledge systems, decolonial approaches to development, or community-led narrative work
- Sensitivity to informed consent and safeguarding when working with Indigenous and frontline communities
- Proficiency in French or Portuguese, given the network’s footprint across Francophone and Lusophone Africa
