Our client in the transportation and logistics sector is looking for a Senior Accountant, responsible for managing and overseeing their financial operations. This includes maintaining financial records, preparing financial statements, performing account reconciliations, managing accounts payable and receivable, and ensuring compliance with industry-specific regulations. The role requires close collaboration with operations, fleet management, and other departments to ensure accurate financial tracking and reporting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and analyse monthly, quarterly, and annual management accounts.
  • Prepare and analyse annual financial statements.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and industry-specific regulatory requirements.
  • Generate and present financial reports to management and stakeholders.
  • Conduct variance analysis and provide insights on operational performance.
  • Maintain the general ledger, including posting journal entries and reconciling accounts.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of all financial transactions related to transport and logistics operations.
  • Assist in the month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Perform/ review reconciliations of bank statements and general ledger accounts.
  • Conduct account reconciliations for balance sheet and income statement accounts.
  • Prepare other reconciliations that are required e.g. transporter reconciliations
  • Reconcile fuel purchases, maintenance expenses, and other operational costs.
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies identified during reconciliations.
  • Process accounts payable transactions, including entering vendor invoices and preparing payments.
  • Process accounts receivable transactions, including invoicing customers and recording receipts.
  • Monitor accounts to ensure timely payments and collections, managing the cash flow effectively.
  • Track and manage financial records related to fleet and equipment purchases, leases, and maintenance.
  • Capitalise and depreciate assets in accordance with company policies and accounting standards.
  • Monitor and control operational expenses, including fuel, repairs, and tolls.
  • Review and process driver expense reports, ensuring compliance with company policies.
  • Prepare and distribute reimbursement payments.
  • Assisting with CD3 acquittals and POD processing
  • Assist in the preparation and filing of tax returns, including fuel taxes and other industry-specific taxes.
  • Ensure compliance with tax regulations and timely payment of taxes.
  • Prepare documentation and support internal and external audit processes
  • Address auditor inquiries and provide necessary information for audit reviews.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and assist in implementing changes.
  • Help develop and update accounting policies and procedures specific to the transport and logistics industry.
  • Work closely with operations, fleet management, and other departments to support financial operations and resolve issues.
  • Collaborate with the finance team on special projects and initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • Minimum of 2-4 years of accounting experience, preferably in the transportation or logistics industry.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and other accounting principles.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks etc) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Knowledge of transport and logistics industry regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Experience with financial statement preparation and analysis.
  • Familiarity with tax regulations and compliance specific to the transport and logistics industry.
