Warehouse Assistant
Objective of the Position
Assist Logistics Officer in ensuring proper and safe custody (storage) of all food and non-food commodities entrusted to the care of WV by donors. Responsible to account and maintain the records for all commodities received, stored and dispatched, documentation of commodity transactions in the warehouse, including receipt, storage and delivery of all food commodities.
Major accountability/Responsibilities
- Checking of trucks on arrival at the warehouse and counting the food and non-food commodities first on the truck and then during off-loading into the warehouse.
- Updating warehouse files.
- Report any shortages, damages or excess to the warehouse supervisor and reflect such differences in all copies of the delivery documents.
- Conduct truck inspection and prepare the respective report.
- Training of loaders on how to stack and handle food and non-food commodities.
- Make sure that all torn bags are reconstituted and repacked.
- Ensure all food and non-food commodities have stack cards and are updated after every transaction.
- Ensure food and non-food commodities are stored on pallets always.
- Ensure warehouse is kept clean.
- Maintain daily attendance book for the loaders.
- Conduct routine inspection of warehouse to detect any infestations and inform the Logistics Officer.
- Prepare weekly reports
Qualifications and Skills:
- Diploma in Stores Management/ Logistics/ Purchasing & Supply Management or equivalent.
- At least two years’ experience in logistics, procurement and warehousing.
- Ability to work in a demanding work environment, preferably with an International NGO.
- Self-start with ability to work under minimal supervision.
- Computer literate in MS Office
