UNFPA Internship programme – Attachés
UNFPA is the United Nations sexual and reproductive health
agency. Our mission is to deliver a world where every pregnancy
is wanted, every childbirth is safe and every young person’s
potential is fulfilled. UNFPA’s goal is to improve the quality
of life of the people Zimbabwe especially women and young
people through promoting universal access to sexual and
reproductive health and rights. In particular, to reduce
maternal mortality, the unmet need for family planning, new HIV
infections and gender based violence, informed by a better
understanding of population dynamics and integrated, rights
based and sensitive approach.
Objectives of the Program:
The UNFPA Internship Program offers a small group of
outstanding students the opportunity to acquire direct exposure
to UNFPA operations for a period of 1 year maximum. It is
designed to complement development-oriented studies with
practical experience in various aspects of UNFPA work in the
following Program areas
• Programme management thematic areas
o Sexual and Reproductive Health
Maternal health
Family planning
Adolescent Sexual and reproductive Health
HIV prevention
Gender Based Violence prevention and response
Population and Development
• Programme support
o Administrative and Logistical support to programs
• Monitoring and Evaluation
• Programming Operations
o Finance
o Administration
o Human resources
o Procurement
o ICT
Duration of Internship
UNFPA only accepts interns for a minimum of 6 months and a
maximum of 12 months
Qualifying for an Internship:
Candidates for the internship programme are selected on a
competitive basis. Applicants should have expressed interest in
the field of development; ability to adapt to new environments
and work with individuals from different cultural backgrounds.
Interns work under the supervision of a staff member at UNFPA.
Education
• Students should be enrolled in an undergraduate / advanced
degree programme or have recently graduated
• Students must have written and spoken proficiency in English

Personal motivation letter demonstrating your interest and
commitment to the field of development with a focus on the
thematic area of interest
1. Curriculum Vitae including 2 referees.
2. Two letters of recommendation from persons with whom you
hold an academic or professional relationship
3. Letter from College or University
