Zimnat General Insurance is looking for a dynamic and highly skilled Technical Accountant to join our Finance Department.
The successful candidate will collaborate closely with our underwriting and claims teams to ensure that all technical results are accurate, IFRS compliant, and ready to drive informed decision-making. This role is suited to a technically strong professional who takes ownership, is comfortable operating in a systems-driven environment, and is committed to continuous improvement in insurance reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the technical accounting cycle across premiums, claims, and reinsurance.
- Prepare timely IFRS compliant technical financial statements, including accurate recognition and measurement of insurance contract liabilities under IFRS 17.
- Coordinate completion of the technical general ledger, trial balance, and monthly audit file, ensuring completeness and accuracy.
- Prepare and review technical reports including premium income, claims movements, underwriting results, and reinsurance balances.
- Perform monthly reconciliations of technical accounts and resolve variances promptly.
- Validate premium, claims, and reinsurance data to ensure completeness, accuracy.
- Support IPEC and other regulatory reporting requirements.
- Coordinate and manage external and internal audits relating to technical accounting, responding to queries and ensuring timely closure of findings.
- Strengthen financial controls over technical processes and insurance reporting.
- Ensure compliance with holding company reporting requirements relating to insurance technical results.
- Drive digitisation and automation of technical accounting processes, improving system usage, data flows, reconciliations, and reporting efficiency.
- Work with IT, underwriting, and claims teams to enhance system-based processes and improve data integrity across the insurance value chain.
Requirements
- Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline.
- Professional qualification such as ACCA, CIMA, or CA Z completed or actively in progress.
- 3 to 5 years’ technical accounting experience within the insurance sector.
- Strong working knowledge of IFRS, including insurance specific standards.
- Advanced Excel capability, including complex reconciliations and data analysis, with working knowledge of accounting systems.
- Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and deliver accurate reporting within regulatory timelines.
- Highly analytical and detail focused, with strong reconciliation and problem-solving capability.
- A mindset geared toward continuous improvement, automation, and process optimisation.
- Confident engaging stakeholders across Finance, Underwriting, Claims, auditors, and regulators.
