Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain SHE policies, procedures, and standards in line with legal requirements and best practice
- Ensure compliance with applicable legislation and regulations, including NSSA, EMA, and Factories and Works requirements
- Conduct hazard identification, risk assessments, and job safety analyses across all plant operations
- Carry out routine workplace inspections and audits, and ensure timely close-out of corrective actions
- Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses, identify root causes, and recommend preventive measures
- Coordinate SHE inductions, toolbox talks, and training programmes for employees, contractors, and visitors
- Oversee the issuance, use, and management of personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Manage waste disposal, effluent, emissions, and other environmental aspects in line with EMA licensing requirements
- Coordinate emergency preparedness, including fire drills, first aid provision, and emergency response plans
- Support implementation and certification of management systems such as ISO 45001 and ISO 14001
- Monitor occupational health programmes, including medical surveillance of employees in high-risk areas
- Prepare and submit SHE reports, statistics, and statutory returns to management and regulatory authorities
Requirements
- A Degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Health, Environmental Science, or a related discipline
- A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a SHE role, preferably within a manufacturing environment
- Sound knowledge of Zimbabwean SHE legislation (NSSA, EMA, Factories and Works Act)
- Strong communication, training, and report-writing skills
- Computer literacy (MS Office)
- A NEBOSH International General Certificate or equivalent professional SHE qualification
- Experience implementing or maintaining ISO 45001 and/or ISO 14001 management systems
- A valid First Aid certificate
- Membership of a recognised professional SHE body
