Who we are

Urgent Action Fund-Africa (UAF-Africa), is a consciously feminist and women’s human rights pan- African Fund, registered in Nairobi, Kenya. Operating as a virtual organisation, the Fund boasts of strategic presence in Africa’s five sub-regions- East Africa: Nairobi, Kenya; North Africa: Cairo, Egypt; Central Africa: Bujumbura, Burundi; Southern Africa: Harare, Zimbabwe and West Africa: Abuja, Nigeria. Recognising the need to move resources rapidly on a continent where opportunities and threats arise and decline quickly, UAF-Africa uses a Rapid Response Grant making mechanism to support unanticipated, time sensitive, innovative and unique initiatives that promote women’s agency in democratic governance, economic and environmental justice, natural resources governance, conflict transformation and justice processes while protecting their personhood, integrity and rights.

Position Overview

The position provides support to the Head of Partnerships & Development (HoP&D) in proposal development, funder reporting, follow up and documentation.

Specific Responsibilities

Assist the HoP&D to identify, review and pursue a steady stream of grant funding opportunities; Support in the proposal development process including research and writing; Assist in the development and tracking measures of success and in preparation of progress reports for all partnerships; Responsible for tracking funder calls for proposals and reporting obligations as necessary; Liaise with other portfolios i.e. Communications, Grantmaking, LM&E, Advocacy & Publications and Feminist Republik Initiative around funder reporting requirements for submission to the HoP&D, for review; Prepare solid funder reports in line with proposal stated deliverables and guidelines; Maintain up to date reporting templates and constantly ensure funder guideline conformity; Actively contribute towards strategic funder mapping for potential specific and general support of UAF-Africa’s work; Prepare tailor-made documentation/ presentations required by the HoP&D for meetings; Maintain an up to date database of current and prospective partners according to their areas of priority jurisdiction and strategic engagement; Prepare periodic partnership and development analysis reports; Work collaboratively with other portfolios to ensure smooth and seamless delivery of the Fund’s strategic deliverables; Any other related responsibilities as assigned by the HoP&D.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences, International Development, Women’s Studies, Gender Studies, Law or related fields.

Skills and Experience

A minimum of 3 years’ experience within the human rights funding mechanism, grantmaking, philanthropic, international relations or NGO sector – especially women’s rights sector; Passionate about UAF-Africa’s mission, committed to teamwork, and achieving results; A demonstrated commitment to women’s human rights and/or social justice; Knowledge and familiarity with grantmaking processes and procedures; Strong feminist conceptualisation and analytical skills; Excellent command of written and oral skills; Strong familiarity with social media philanthropy advocacy and activism; Detailed knowledge of and demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google computer applications, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Google Drive, Sheets, Docs, Slides; Strong sense of initiative and ability to work independently as well as part of a team; Excellent time management skills and ability to work quickly and efficiently in a fast-paced environment managing competing priorities and reprioritizing tasks as needed; Close attention to detail and accuracy; personal initiative; reliability, flexibility and follow-up; ability to multi-task and meet deadlines; Ability to distil complex and detailed information into an accessible and approachable writing style; Excellent interpersonal skills; Flexible and willing to perform other tasks as assigned.

Work Environment
