Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced candidates for the position of Nurse-Counsellor.
The Adult Rape Clinic (ARC) is a Registered Non-Governmental Organization that offers medical and psychosocial support care to survivors of sexual gender-based violence (SGBV) is looking for an experienced Nurse Counsellor to be based in Harare. ARC has a zero-tolerance policy towards sexual exploitation and abuse and violations of child safeguarding values.
Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Program Coordinator, the Nurse-Counsellor will perform the following duties: Provision of psycho-social support to survivors and their support systems; Clinical Management of SGBV, including; Rapid HIV and pregnancy testing; Administration of PEP, ECP and STI Prophylaxis/treatment; Keep records of drugs and test kits; Medical examination and collection of forensic specimens; Ensure proper storage and chain of custody for the specimens; Provide follow-up care and remind survivors of their impending appointments; Ensure that affidavits are commissioned; Attend staff, Departmental and other meetings; Collect data for health information and research purposes; Consolidate monthly statistics; Disburse survivor transport reimbursements; Support Community outreach and information dissemination activities on Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) and SGBV.
Qualifications
Diploma in General Nursing; Qualification in Counselling; Diploma in Midwifery is an added advantage; Qualification in Rapid HIV Testing; Training in SGBV management, care and support (5-day theoretical training with two weeks of practical training at a recognized SGBV Clinic).
Knowledge and Experience
A minimum of five (5) years of professional experience, including experience in nursing and counselling; Knowledge of sexual gender-based violence, sexual and reproductive health rights, gender issues and relevant international human rights standards; Experience in community mobilisation and facilitating stakeholders’ meetings.
Other Requirements
Good interpersonal communication skills; Fluency in oral and written English; Ability to communicate in local languages and ability to communicate in sign language will be an added advantage; Expertise in Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, and PowerPoint.
The position will be based on a fixed term contract that can be extended depending on performance and availability of funds.
