We are searching for a Grants Manager to join an exciting proposal in Zimbabwe aimed at Stopping Abuse and Female Exploitation (SAFE).
SAFE is a new programme jointly funded by the UK and Swedish governments to reduce violence in Zimbabwe and protect the safety, rights and choices of women/girls and men/boys. The programme aims to achieve this through changing attitudes and behaviour; increasing knowledge of and access to services; increasing implementers’ capacity to use data and evidence and contributing towards the knowledge base of scalable approaches to prevent and respond to gender-based violence (GBV).
The Grants Manager is responsible for coordination and management of the local grant recipients, and role will be based out of Harare, and should our tender be successful the project will last 4 years.
The tasks of the Grant Manager will include:
Pre-contract
• Review of the concept notes and supporting documentation to ensure completeness, consistency and adherence to the grant terms;
• Review project budgets and advise the Senior Leadership team accordingly;
• Identify fiduciary risky areas;
• Review of the Memorandums of Understanding after project approval;
• Ensure that relevant special conditions are included in the grant agreements are followed up;
Project Monitoring
• Support programme monitoring in making sure that progress reports (technical and financial) are submitted on time;
• Review, analyse and assess grantees performance against KPIs as per grant agreement;
• Review grantees’ financial reports and request any additional supporting documentation;
• Follow up on feedback sent to the grantee to ensure issues raised have been addressed by the grantee;
• Coordinate project expenditure verification and audit;
• Serve as Relationship Manager for a select few grantees who require strong financial oversight due to the size or risk profile of the grant.
Overall portfolio management
• Preparation of the grant allocation, disbursements, and forecast schedules as required;
• Tracking all financial disbursements to grantees.
Grant Management Policies and Procedures
• Focusing on continual improvement in the grant management processes ensuring at all times that the grant management function is operating efficiently and effectively;
• Ensuring that the Grants Manual is up to date regarding grant management policies and procedures.
- An academic background in finance or similar fields, commensurate experience;
- Professional qualification in accountancy or qualified through practice;
- Significant experience working in a grant management role, ideally within a develop context
- Experience of working with relevant organisations and programmes, including Government, Civil Society Organisations and Development Partners and management of donors funded programmes;
- Experience of working on donor-funded programmes or with an international private foundation managing grantees;
- Strong analytical skills;
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and to manage competing priorities;
- Outstanding team player and willingness to learn and support learning of others;
- Fluency in written and oral communication skills in English is essential.
- Experience of working in sub-Saharan Africa, and in Zimbabwe in particular, is preferred.
- Knowledge of Shona and other local languages is an advantage.
