Purpose of Role
You must take charge! You must understand the vision and be confident you can lead the inbound logistics and operations. Key responsibilities include but not limited to:
– Participate in the process of short term and long term production planning (crop choice, field planning and management which
incorporates soil preservation) based on market intelligence data from business development;
– Securing of high quality inputs at lowest cost possible at the right time;
– Field operations management: ensuring adequate resources (labour, water, inputs, etc) are accurately specified and secured, monitoring crop health from nursery, planting, maintenance during crop growth, and harvesting;
– Water/irrigation resources planning and management;
– Recommend adequate storage facilities to avoid post harvest losses.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Experience
Essential
● Agricultural Certificate/Diploma from a recognised college;
● 5 years experience in horticultural crop production (full cycle from inputs selection to post harvest management) with traceable, excellent results (experience in onions is a very strong advantage);
● Good understanding of the numbers of farming (e.g. crop production budgets) and computer literate;
● Managing field workers;
● Driver’s licence a must.
Desirable
● Grains, fruit and herb production experience;
● Organic crop production (added advantage);
● Fair knowledge of market trends.
