Organisational Background

The Organisation of Rural Associations for Progress (ORAP) is a leading local NGO involved in development and relief (emergency) work in rural communities in Matabeleland North, Matabeleland South and Midlands provinces. It exists to fight all forms of poverty among the rural and urban grassroots communities of disadvantaged women, men and youth through the empowerment of people by facilitating their development in their diverse cultural contexts.

 

Position summary

The incumbent provides direct interface with communities and partner teams on all ORAP coordinated projects

 

Major Duties/Responsibilities include:-

  • Supervising subordinates
  • Training of staff
  • Ensuring project compliance to donor and organizational policies
  • Mobilizing community participation in projects and programmes
  • Recommending applicable course of action to the Nutrition Enterprise and Wellness (NEW) Coordinator.
  • Evaluating programme activities including implementation
  • Carrying out provincial and district level stakeholder management
  • Compiling progress reports for the NEW Coordinator
  • Inducting staff on ORAP’s Vision and Mission as well as the Strategic Plan
  • Carrying out subordinates appraisals
  • Participating in policy development and review
  • Upholding the ORAP Vision, Mission and Strategic Plan
  • Performing any other duties as delegated by the NEW Coordinator

 

Qualifications

  • Degree in Developmental Studies, Social Work, Agriculture or equivalent

 

Experience

  • Having served at least two years in developmental work at managerial level
  • Having worked at grass roots in a rural background for at least two years
  • Should have previously worked with people of different age groups in a culturally diverse environment

 

Relevant attributes

  • Strong problem solving and group work skills
  • Demonstrable qualities of leadership with sensitivity to different cultural backgrounds
  • Sound computer skills and familiar with software packages used at ORAP
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Valid Class 4 driver’s license
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
