Introduction

CARE International and its partners FHI 360, Bulawayo Projects Centre (BPC), International Youth Foundation (IYF), National Action Zimbabwe (NAZ) and Environment Africa seek to appoint a qualified and experienced consultant who should be able to lead the SBC Formative Research Study and develop an SBC Strategy for the USAID funded Takunda RFSA project. The project has the overall goal to promote Sustainable, Equitable, and Resilient Food, Nutrition and Income Security in Manicaland and Masvingo. The consultant should be able to develop an informed SBC strategy that helps ensure sustainable achievement of all project purposes.

Objectives of the consultancy

Lead the Takunda SBC Formative Research Study which seeks to: Understand community structures, dynamics, and networks across Takunda project areas and engage them to identify positive deviants, early adopters and barriers and facilitators to household and community access to and participation in livelihood and resilience building activities; Explore experiences of men, women, youth, and adolescent boys and girls in community leadership and decision-making roles (livelihoods, health, and resilience) to identify determinants to effective group participation, management, and achievement of group objectives; Identify specific social, cultural, and other drivers and determinants affecting food and nutrition security at individual, household, and community levels, and for specified target audiences (men, women, youth, adolescent boys/girls, older persons, and families); Explore factors contributing to maternal and child nutrition and hygiene knowledge-practice gap; Identify effective engagement, action, communication activities, programmatic audiences, including their reference groups (stakeholder, religious/cultural leaders) for promoting desirable behaviors among Takunda target communities; Apply the TIPs methodology to try out a few selected nutrition and WASH behaviors to promote amongst Takunda program communities; Draft the Takunda SBC strategy informed by findings from the formative research study.
