Qualifications & experience
At least Secondary School education and Basic English for communication. Previous verifiable and demonstrable experience as a caretaker, gardener and/or handyman (minimum 2 years). Possession of a clean driving license and verifiable experience of working with children and especially those with disabilities are an advantage.

The job
The Centre Caretaker/ Gardener’s primary responsibilities are:

1. Maintenance and upkeep of the ROKPA Chitungwiza Centre
The Caretaker/ gardener will keep the centre clean and tidy, report any damage, breakages or other problems to the Centre Co-ordinator immediately. Where possible, the caretaker will carry out simple repairs, e.g. repairing hinges, repalcing light bulbs, painting, wasking windows, etc. and recommend regular maintenance work; Responsible for the security of all property at the centre; To keep buildings and equipment clean; Maintain the trees, vegetables, flowers and garden, planting, weeding and watering as needed; Ensure that the property is left clean and tidy and that equipment such as chairs is in good repair following hireouts.

2. Resource management
Keep an up-to-date inventory of ROKPA assets at the centre; Ensure economic use of utilities (electricity and water) and report excessive useage to the Centre Co-ordinator; Keep all gadgets and tools in good state of repair (and fix or replace where necessary).

3. Payment of utility bills of Rokpa Chitungwiza Centre
The caretaker/ gardener will be responsible for requesting, collection and payment of utility (electricity, water, rates) bills to the responsible authorities on time to avoid penalties.

4. Assist in the smooth build-up of ROKPA projects
The caretaker/gardener will assist the Management team in the running of RSN Chitungwiza projects under the guidance of the Centre Co-ordinator.

5. Other Duties
Respect and actively support all happenings at the ROKPA Chitungwiza centre; Perform any other duties required by the Centre Co-ordinator.

The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated, hands on person with a desire to make a difference. Should be able to demonstrate gardening/handyman experience and to work with minimal supervision. Good verbal communication skills are essential. Preference will be given to candidates ready to live in Chitungwiza.
